Absolutely, 100%, fuck yes, my man. Boi do I hate curls. Anything related to curling is akin to being 9 years old and my dad making me write the same sentence over and over for an entire 1 subject notebook. It’s boring. The burn is negligible. No matter how hard you work them, they feel just… “fine” in a day. They take away from pulling if done first, they just get ignored by me if I pull first because I dont care.
Luckily I’m gifted with okay biceps, but I dont think the flattest shortest inserted biceps in the world would make me curl.
Tomorrow I’ll be back in the gym, finally! Even if I still can’t train legs due to bone edema in my left knee, I’m happy to do at least some upper body work.
Yeah, that’s about the size of it. My issue is that I am not genetically pre-disposed to have big biceps (insertion points, whatever). Plus I have some tennis-elbow type stuff that makes working it directly extra terrible.
I was going to say the same exact thing. My calves also suck, objectively speaking, but I am not worried as much about them because they seem to fit my overall physique. Unlike my biceps, which can fuck right off.
Hey guys, wow, a whole day since the tag and a bunch of replies to wade through -lol.
Best advice I have for biceps is to hit the movements that really target them directly (even if you need much less weight and they’re not exciting or fun exercises), first, then crush whatever’s left with a big compound.
For example, my current routine usually looks like this:
Non support concentration curls
Incline DB curls
Barbell Curls
Or, I’ve even done pullups with a focus on the bicep integrated portion of the ROM, and a very focused negative as my finisher. Really torches everything.
I think the most obvious thing for me to get out of this is to actually do direct biceps work first, and THEN do compound stuff after. Which is normally the opposite of how I would approach it, so I may as well give it a try.
For biceps, yes… but don’t train biceps first before a full back workout and still think it will be as productive… Do back first, but when you get to Biceps, sequence your movements like a suggested and I think you’ll be pleased.
I feel like all my high school bros knew of and used elbow-on-knee concentration curls. I guess I just dismissed them as kid’s stuff years ago.
Lately I’ve tried to pay more attention to hitting my biceps lengthened (like incline curls) and shortened (like preacher or spider curls) but I haven’t messed with concentration curls. They looked like they were working pretty well for Arnold.
