Off-Season Bodybuilders

The ladies love it too.

More size means more power.

One of the best of all time shows us how it’s done. Kaz knows how to bulk.

World class powerlifter and strongest man champion doing… gasp… dumbbell curls?

Uh oh, I guess it pays off to work your arms. A thousand Waterbury clones just had their hearts broken.

Resting after a long day of being huge and lifting cars… with a plate of fried chicken of course!

Who is that?

Couldn’t find any info on him! That pic is from the '07 cup though, I think.

Some of my best PRs have been while I was high. Probably just my imagination but the pumps are incredible, too.

And Im saying that its completely impossible that anyone would do something like that based with my experiences in powerlifting.

Adrenaline would have to be administered IMMEDIATELY before an attempt…and competitors are usually sitting in plain sight leading up to their attempts. You wont see anyone shooting up with anything at a meet…even in the “anything goes” multiply federations.

Im pretty involved with powerlifting and I know a lot of people who have been involved with it for years and NO ONE has ever heard anything like Trevor’s claim that powerlifters commonly shoot themselves up with adrenaline. Remember that he said that it was a common occurance…not even just a one time thing. I honestly have a feeling that Trevor was either confused or embellishing things a bit for the sake of his writing.

Who interviewed him? Maybe the interviewer added a little here and there to make things sound a tad more “interesting”…

An epi-pen is completely unnoticeable even in a crowded room unless you knew what it was and when it was being injected. It can be injected through clothing and looks like a pen. I was aware of their use many years ago.

Adrenalin is not called “adrenalin” very often except with lay people. It is more well known as epinephrine.

Not very. Even the military uses injectables like this when there is a risk of biological infection. Epi-pens are used all over the world for people with extreme allergies or even difficulty breathing. You simply push against the skin and the needle pops out giving the dose. It can go through clothing so no one is going to know who is doing it unless they made a show of it.

This is NOT uncommon.

I said “interesting” because I never noticed anything like that before.
May be common, but unless you know what to look for…

Thanks for the info, brother.

Even with an epi-pen, it would be noticeable in a meet environment and Im sure with the number of professional level lifters that I know and have spoken with, I would have heard something about this from within powerlifting…at least happening once. So far, the only place Iv heard anything about it is from Trevor Smith. To me, this sounds like a “heard from someone who heard from someone” type of story.

Honestly, powerlifters do some downright stupid stuff when it comes to drugs and dieting, but getting jacked up with an epinephrine shot pre-lift is more of a comic book thing than what actually happens.

If you guys honestly think that this shit is true, head on over to strength sports and ask some of the big guys over there how many guys they know jacking up at meets.

Faulty logic. How many guys do you know of who will relay what their drug profile is? You could literally use an epi-pen while bending down to look in your gym bag. You could use it 10min before in the restroom for that matter. Why would you think the use of epinephrine would be off limits? That was why ephedrine was used previously.

Should the day come where I want to train like a Powerlifter and wear all the elaborate suits and triple ply bench shirts that you need 4 people to get you into and then have them wet it down to shrink wrap it to your body so you turn yourself into a human power spring and then on top of this be shot full of Adrenalin-which can stop your heart instantly and is something I would never dare do to myself-- to lift even more weight than your muscles would normally be able to lift under normal training circumstances then I will do so.

Understand, this is no knock against Powerlifters, but I think it is important that people understand what really goes on. I train to build muscle and the weights I use, I use daily … day in and day out. Many Powerlifters wind up setting records by lifting a given weight that they cannot come anywhere near lifting (given the circumstances I mentioned above) a week later in the gym or ever again for that matter.

Ah that’s right. I believe I remember reading that people who are extremely allergic to things like bee stings (where just one sting can kill them) are allowed to carry an epi pen.

Clueless.

No one “wets down” a bench shirt after they put it on. Some people wash them occasionally between uses. This whole thing reeks of poetic license.

If jacking up is such a common occurrence, then there would have to be someone who has gotten hurt doing it in the 6 or 7 years since Trevor wrote that or sometime before.

How many of you guys powerlift? How many of you have ever been to a real multiply meet?

Of course, I can get BG to ask the multiple WR holders that she sees on a daily basis if they know anything about any of this.
