I’m going back through all the issues of T-mag starting at issue #1 and was wondering if any articles or theories that were popular several years ago have been disproven. You don’t here much about Poloquin anymore, but I assume that his principles are valid, but surely some things have changed.
we dont talk about him much anymore but a lot of the principles i use and other strength coaches use were inspired by him. he did write some stuff that i would disagree with however.
Fact is that all the articles new and old are worth while and not at the same time.
It is all good info. but you simply have to try the stuff out and find what works for you. An article written yesterday may contain methods that do nothing for you while a dated article may give you the greatest advancement you have seen in years.
So the short answer is, yes they are still great.
Have fun reading

perv,
I think you have a good idea there! When you are finished reviewing old articles I would love it if you came back and shared with us exactly which training concepts are no longer valid.
I thank you in advance for your dedication and time regarding this project!
Most of the stuff you read here is opinion. You can always pull out studies that have “facts” that back up your methods. The only stuff i can think of that could really be disproven is cutting edge supplements (eg early andro supplements, boron etc hehehe)

Great question!
After posting with this Bunch of Thugs for a few years, two things have become apparent:
-
When they post an article, it’s pretty solid information that often stands the test of time. WHEN IT DOESN’T…
-
They are one of the few people who will go back and review and revise a topic (Chris and “T-Dawg” come to mind as well as JB and “Massive Eating”).
You won’t see that often in this Buisness…

Some of the old articles kick major ass. I just like the feel the mag had then. Nothing wrong with the way it is now, but sometimes I enjoy going back and reading the early stuff. Reader mail answered by Tim Patterson is classic stuff. It’s like being a historian or something, and being able to read old documents.
Yes, I realize this sounds weird.
Newer doesn’t mean better, it just means different.
Still, an interesting question. Poliquin’s GVT has been tossed aside as useless for drug-free trainees.
Poliquin is still the man though
