Numbness/Tingling Post-Workout

Ok this is kind of weird but it is starting to freak me out…

After I workout (usually a pretty intense session), I take a shake immediately of 15 g EAA, 10 g bcaa, 5 g glycerol, 10 g glutamine, and 20-30 g waxy maize. ( I am female, small). Then I go home and eat immediately (so like 20-30 minutes later)- 3/4 cup dry oats/oatbran or a large sweet potato + a lean turkey burger + veggies…

then, about 15 minutes after I finish this meal, my hands go numb and I get a tingling sensation. This lasts about 5-10 min and is pretty intense.

Could this be a reaction to the carbs, or what? It is always this exact pattern. Can anyone provide any insight as to what it could be?

Is there any beta alanine in any of the products you’re taking post workout? Other than that it could be a circulation issue involving your GI tract - pulling excess blood away from your extremities. You may want to have a doc check you out.

no, I take beta alanine pre-workout, but have for a long time and never had tingling, so it definitely isn’t that.

Could it be that I am taking in too much in one sitting and my body is like freaking out trying to digest it all? Or does this mean I have some sort of insulin problem?

ive had the same thing happen to me, ill go through phases where ill have the sensation for about a week after my workouts and before i go to bed(i work out late though). and then it wont happen for like 6 months… now that i think of it, im due for the tingles again soon. XD

Sounds like a possible food allergy. You should get an allergy test with your Dr. and find out if its in your shake or what.

Tingling in the hands and feet is one of the side effects of beta alanine supplementation. Stop taking it and see if it goes away. If it does you’ll know what the source is.

No it can’t be like a food allergy because when I have the oatmeal or oatbran for breakfast (pre-workout), I never get it. It is only after I have it post workout (it is my first main source of carbs after a really intense workout). I am thinking it is like all of the carbs are going to my muscles and perhaps that is why I am going numb? I don’t know… it is weird.

It’s not the beta alanaine either. I forgot to take it this morning before my workout, but still got the tingling sensation. And it is only after a really hard workout. It usually doesnt happen on like an arm/shoulder day. Just my really intense leg workouts and back/chest workouts.

Thanks guys for the help so far. It is quite strange indeed.

Could be diabetes or hypoglycemia.

Could also be shock, some times if you hit your stomach to hard when its to empty after a really hard workout it can freak the body out.

It sounds like an experience I had when I spent all night drinking and puking and tried to eat Chinese food at 2pm the next day. Loaded the plate, devoured it in 5 minutes felt sick and cold and shaky.

what kind/brand EEA are you taking?

i take purple wraath and it causes weird tingling sometimes. it has beta alinine, but i think even more so the tingling is probably caused by the niacin it contains.

are you taking anything containing niacin?

anyway, this might not help since you say your tingling happens only after really hard workouts, but it maybe something to consider…

I just took some purple wraath, that stuff tastes god awful. The niacin flush feels horrible.

What are all the other supps you take? It might be one of them…

haha i can agree to both of those statements, though i think the flush part gets better the more you take it (at least for me it did).

the first couple of times i drank it my ears started tingling like crazy and my face felt hot.

Sorry to say but it sounds like a neurological problem maybe neck or c-spine. I used to get those once in a while working chest. Shoulders. I had surgery and all gone now. I wouldn’t play around and just get it checked by a doctor.

I agree with DJ

hey bushidobadboy , speaking of neurological system, I have been working out for a while but it happened that i stopped the past yr and just started 2 weeks ago. anytime I do heavy weights, my muscles starts to feel; numb,

like for example in bench presses my shoulder muscle gets numb and not giving me power to push the weight however my arm still got the endurance. today I had back workout and couldn’t pull the barbell at the end of the training it dropped, my fingers and my rest were numb

I hope you can explain why this is happening, thx!

hey man, I didn’t notice that all of this was back in 2007 lol, but you may be still alive and still remember about neurology

look forward to hearing from you!
