Novice Men Division

I have couple of stupid questions. I am filling up an entry form for my first contest. So, I have to chose a Division and Class to compete in. I am 35.

  1. Can I select Novice Division? Are there any age restrictions for it?
  2. Also if I chose a certain weight Class and then overdiet and miss the range of a chosen earlier class, is it a problem?

I’m fairly certain the ‘novice’ division is based solely on contest history. I’m in exactly the same boat, and have to choose between doing…

-Novice
-OPen MIddle or Lt. Heavyweight
-Mens masters 35+

I imagine you’d have the same selections

What show you doing?

anybody can do novice. If you overdiet and miss your class they put you in the correct class come contest day after weigh ins. Thats not bad but missing your diet sucks…you wouldn’t want the lt heavy weight limit to be 195 and come in at 196 then be competing against the big boys know what I mean?

Just go for your best condition and let the chips fall as they may…it’s always nice to know your weight classes tho.

I also would like to know what show and organization? lol :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Oh, and I’ll throw this in… I was pretty concerned with my own target weight initially, until I received the best advice… Just diet until you’re in contest condition. If it’s Lt Heavy, great. If it’s heavy, great. (actually, the line was “just diet until your cheeks sink in” -lol)

Thanks for advices.
NPC Metropolitan April 11 in Tribeca:)
I guess you too?

Novice is reserved for those who are competing for the first time yes?

That was my assumption. I just did not want to see any surprises:)

I think it depends on the federation. I’ve seen some write ups that state as long as you haven’t placed top 3 in any previous show.

And I won’t be doing the NPC show in April Nreviya, although I certainly wish you the best in it (I’m doing a USBF in May)

no there are many people who compete novice for a long time. It really is a judge by the calibur of the physique. If I competed in a normal sized show in the novice class then people would think I was sand bagging knowing that I have competed before.

It supposed to be for beginners and/or the ppl who do shows for ‘fun’ instead of trying to win lol

The only thing that disqualifies you from the novice class is if you win the novice overall title…then you are not allowed in novice and have to go open.
