Not Sure What To Do

Hey all. First of all I want to say that this has to be the best site I have ever been on. I used to go to the Men’s Health forum all the time, but this one is far better. There is so much information here, that, sad to say, don’t know what to do with it.

Anyway, I’m a 23 year old guy, and I’m 5’8, 165lbs, 17%BF, 34 waist. My goal is I would love to be between 180-200 pounds, no more than 10%BF. For a while I was trying to lose fat, but now I’m not sure if thats what I should do. I don’t know if I should just bulk insead, and then lose the fat. I’m afraid I’ll just lose too much weight, I think anything below 165 is just too small for a guy. So I was wondering if you very knowledgable guys could lend me a hand, tell me which one I should go for.

I’m following the Precision Nutrition, so I know my diet is fairly decent. I’m eating 5-6 times a day. Taking the Flameout, Metabolic Drive protein, and the bars when I don’t have time to make a shake. Taking the German Creatine. I just bought JB’s Scrawny to Brawny Book, just in case I should bulk. I can post some pictures once I get some taken if you want me to.

Thanks ever so much!

Since you didn’t post pics or many stats such as how long you’ve been training for, etc. Just going by the limited info you provided of being 5’ 8" and 165 and 17% B/F, I recommend you bulk. It is my opinion that anyone taller than 5’ 5" and under 200 lbs probably needs to bulk. Once you start adding quality LBM your B/F % will be decreased and the more LBM the more cranked up your metabolism will become.

Now bulking doesn’t mean eating like shit. You need quality foods. If you have the Scrawny to Brawny and Precision Nutrition programs you’re already on the right track. Train hard and follow JB’s advice on nutrition.

Thanks for the advice. I was afraid that being 17%BF would be too high to bulk, its what I’ve always thought anyway…
