Northwestern football player

Did you guys hear about the death of the Northwestern fooball player? Coach Davies, did you know this player?

Yes, his name is Rashidi Wheeler and it happened today. This really sad and starting to get strange that 3 football players have died within 2 weeks of each other during conditioning drills. Also, FSU linebacker Devaughn Darling died about 6 months ago during conditioning drills as well. This is a really sad set of incidences and I wish the best to the families and friends of these young men.

Man that’s too bad. Medical examiners are saying the death does not appear to be heat related.

i heard about it late this night (of the day it happened). Haven’t heard the whole scoop yet though…

As I know all of you share the same sentiments of the family. My deepest prayers are with them. I did not personally know the young man but only knew of his tremendous drive and dedication as a great team member. In faith, Coach Davies

A UF Gator football player passed away last week as well. He collapsed after training. Had heatstroke and a heart attack. Went into a coma and died a few days later. It’s scary. And crazy that it’s all happening like this now.

Coach Davies or anyone:
Do you know if this guy, or any other athlete killed in drills, has a unique and identifiable heart condition? I am curious as to what sort of condition they were in before. If they play pro and Div-I ball, then they almost certainly have alot of confidence, so it is unlikely that they knew anything (if they did have a condition). How would any of us know if we would die like these guys did? Just a question

Colin this guy had asthma and they are now saying his death was related to asthma. Often when someone dies of sudden death there is a congenital related abnormality of the heart that they are unaware of. Really unless you’ve been examined by an expert cardiologist hooked up to an EKG machine or been subjected to an exercise stress test it would be difficult to know. Many heart related murmurs etc. in youngsters go undiagnosed because GP’s are usually not all that great at diagnosing them.

The NU football player died of Asthma. He had a puffer in his hand, it just didn’t work. He has had attacks in the past but the inhaler always worked.

I’ve heard from various media outlets that 18 or 19 college and high-schoolers have died of heatstroke since 95.You can’t always rely on the media for accuracy, but even a reduced number would be alarming.

does nate dogg or anyone want to elaborate on the Florida player? I heard there was a third, but have only heard a little.

Auten (freshmen fullback) was the UF player that died about a week and a half ago. Haven’t heard of anyone else recently. But I’ve been out of the loop the last few days…I’ve been moving and was sick. So I haven’t been out much or seen the news.

There isn’t a lot to elaborate on. He was a freshman fullback around 250, and there hasn’t been any indication in the media or from UF about any pre existing conditions as yet.
