Alot of people are fanatical followers of ‘stimulate, don’t annihilate’. I on the other hand follow the saying casually. For example I stimulate for a couple of months, then as the end of the program is coming, I spend one or two sessions totally obliterating. I recently gained half an inch on my arms after 4 days rest from going from full-body program onto a chinup-based obliteration session. OMG the DOMS are painful, so yeah, both having DOMS and not having DOMS is beneficial, you just need to moderate both.
Aiming for (acute)soreness after each workout is just as dumb as avoiding it like the plague.
And not to forget-there are various degrees of soreness.

I define annihilate quite a bit more liberally I think.
