Just curious to see if anyone else out there has used Nicorette gum as an alternative to the regular preworkout energy enhancers (caffeine, ephedrine, etc). I only use it occasionally-when I’m laying off the usual ECA stuff (or I don’t want it to keep me up all night) in the 2 mg strength. I’m pleasantly surprised at the results-never had a bad workout on the stuff. Besides the possibility of becoming addicted anyone know anything bad about nicotine gum?
Oh well, sounds like everyone else who might have tried it is dead. Guess I better quit.
Hi Dave. I’m not a smoker, but I use nicotine gum and patches from time-to-time to keep me more alert when I’m taking pain meds for kidney stones. I have read and found from first-hand experience that nicotine also acts as a muscle relaxer, so I wouldn’t think it would be real helpful in the gym. - Nylo
nicotine permanently alters the dopamine
recpetors in your brain. It’s bad stuff.
Skeletal muscles have nicotinic receptors. When acetylcholine or nicotine comes in contact with the receptors, it stimulates muscle contraction. The more of either you have, the more contraction potential the muscles have. Powerdrive works by stimulating the release of acetylcholine. Since you’re chewing nicorette gum, which puts nicotine in your system, it probably works in the same way as the powerdrive to increase the muscle contraction potential. sorry this may be a bit unclear.
Never heard 'bout it permanently effecting the brain. Interesting, where did you hear/read that? I smoked for about a year in college, and never really got hooked or craved nicotine so I’m guessing my brain chemistry may be a tad off (LOL). I do find myself stronger after using the gum, but for safety I only use it 1-2 a month. Thanks for the info.
i dont think it permanently affects the brain, just as long as the nicotine is in your system.
Um, I can’t find that study right now. It’s been a while since I read it, so I could be remembering it wrong. Sorry, it was a bad idea to post something like that when I wasn’t too sure of it. If I find the study, I’ll post the ref.
