Schlerth is one of the few guys I respect & take seriously when he rants. Just as he said after 29 surgeries all due to football, he has earned a right to voice a loud opinion. I think this will blow over in short time. Just a big deal because of the weekend. Until I see a guy actually get suspended for a helmet to helmet blow, I’m going to assume this is a scare tactic. After all it is Halloween.

It was a very bad weekend for all of this to go down with that Rutgers kid getting paralyzed.
Whether it’s a scare tactic or not, seeing clean, hard play draw fines of this magnitude pisses me off. I didn’t think it was possible for me to hate Roger Goodell any more until this shit went down.
I dont if anyone mentioned it but Joe Paterno and Ditka said the following:
“I’ve been saying for 15 years we ought to get rid of the facemask,” Paterno told the Morning Call. “Then you go back to shoulder blocking, shoulder tackling, and you wouldn’t have all those heroes out there.”
Mike Ditka played for the Bears while wearing a facemask that consisted of one single bar, and he’d be fine with eliminating the facemask altogether. And he points out that you can’t have a helmet-to-helmet hit if no one is wearing a helmet.
“I don’t think people would strike with the head as much,” Dikta said. “You would learn to strike with the shoulder pads if you didn’t have a helmet on your head.”
Think this holds any merit, or will we just get guys with broken faces?

Yes there would also be a lot more broken noses and missing teeth without facemasks. Hardly the image the league is going for.
I’ve heard people suggest all kinds of crazy shit, including eliminating pads altogether like Aussie rules or rugby (is there a difference?). This is insane to me. I don’t see how you can line two sides up and then have them crash into each other without pads on. This sport doesn’t lend itself to that; it is MUCH more explosive than rugby or Aussie rules. If you want to take pads away then you basically have to rewrite the entire rulebook. You can’t have guys in 3 point stances 1-2 yards away from each other without helmets on.
None of it is going to happen though. If you want to look like you care about player safety, like the NFL does, then taking equipment away is the last thing you want to do. It would be a PR nightmare.
Now Alex Mack is running his mouth about Harrison being a dirty player.
Maybe you should try blocking him next time.
WTF! Is up w/Steve Young. I used to enjoy his commentary, but this shit talk about someone getting killed on the field is a little to much for me. This is his only argument. I think getting that monkey off of his bag has gone straight to his head.
As for Harrison, let’s face it, he isn’t the cleanest player in the league. I saw a few hits last yr & than again w/the VY incident. He calls attention to himself. Just shut your hole & tackle correctly. How hard is that?

Yeah, no dirty players in the HOF, none at all/sarcasm.
This will all blow over to a degree I’m sure.
I read this morning on Profootballtalk.com that the Vikings players had some interesting things to say in their meeting room about this new emphasis on safety, complete with funny stickman pictures, pretty funny.
Godell’s heart is in the right place but his head is up his ass.
I think people forget this as not a rules change, only a punishment change. That is why players are all crying, cause now they could end up losing a game check. Like BJB said this will blow over.
Dallas Clark was just put on IR…Peyton weeps lol.
Tony Dunjy is off my shit list. He says that defenders should be protected against leading with the helmet hits, running backs lead with their helmet right? ala AP…kinda makes sense.
edit: Greatest lead with the helmet run was Earl Cambell against that poor LB for the Rams, in slow-mo the LB’s body actually ripple’s with the impact.
^ Shit I have Clark in T-Nation FF, fuck me.

Well, well, well, I’m in need of a WR and I have 3 TE’s…hmmmm.

Not from me man, I am hurting for WR also. I think Collie just got surgery also and I have him and P. Manning.

Damn, that sucks.
^ Tell me about it going to be a long end of the season.
Earl Campbell.
Pops an lb in the sternum then runs the fuck out of his jersey.
Those thighs mmm those thighs.
Isn’t he also essentially crippled if hes still alive? Thats a sobering thought…
“Football, like prostitution, is the business of ruining ones body for other peoples pleasure.”
Again, I’m not meaning to brag, but shouldn’t there be like a “injures most other teams star players” stat? Add Dallas Clark to the mix and the Redskins are fucking shit up even with their “one of the worst defenses in the league.” LOL

lmao if you think about you guys really have messed star players up from all the teams you played. Oh well still not making playoffs… ![]()
Wife working so I can watch football all damn day. Bad thing is Texans are on a bye and Cowboys do not play until Monday night. Well at least the Cowboys will be at the game, have to wait and see if they actually fucking play this week.

Got Red Zone on and ready to go!
Can’t wait for the draft pick battle between my 49ers and the Panthers this morning, should be an awful game, and everyone wins! You either get the W or take one step closer to the top pick in the NFL draft.
Lock of the century:
Pittsburgh losing 2.5 in Miami
I reserve the right to make additional picks at a later time.
