1)How much is too much weight to gain per weight when bulking…I heard on average the body cant produce more than a 1 lb/week of muscle…and if its more its probably fat. Is this true?

2)Im currently on the OVT program, and it seems my legs are progressing faster than my upper body (size). Trust me Im not complaining, I actually like getting big legs. But could this be because I have never really consistently trained legs before?

1)This generally accepted by people but i have even heard that it is probably like a quarter of a pound a week if it is all muscle by a certain author here, just can’t remember which one. Just basically use your waist size measurement as an indicator, don’t use the scale as it is unreliable.

  1. Good job you just answered your own question
    3)Good luck

One pound of muscle per week?

That’s 52 pounds of muscle per year.

Where do I sign up?

I’d say 8-12 lbs. of muscle per year, and that’s with optimal lifting and nutrition.

I’ll go along with 52 lbs being a miracle for a year for most natural people, but I wouldn’t consider 20 out of the question at all and maybe more.

Twenty pounds of muscle for a natural lifter in a year is out of the question unless you’ve got some fine genetics and an awesome eating plan. Twenty pounds of muscle and fat in a year is certainly possible, even probable.

Being that this is the beginners forum and the way the question was posed I am assuming that the OP has neither the genetics nor diet or chemicals to come anywhere near 20 lbs of muscle in a year.

If you want I’ll find the CT article from a couple months ago which gave the 8-12 lb. annual limit.

I found this in the 20 Pounds of “Hollywood” Muscle! article.

Thibaudeau: Okay, gaining 20 pounds of muscle tissue in 12 weeks without drugs is very difficult to do. In fact, it’ll almost be impossible for most.

If everything is done perfectly, most men can hope for around a 0.5 to 1.0 pound gain in muscle tissue per week. So gaining 6-12 pounds of muscle in 12 weeks is reasonable if everything is done perfectly. However, we can give the illusion of a 20 pound gain by emphasizing certain areas of the body.

And as for my genetics and diet…I put on close to 20 lbs in the past 3 months…Def not all muscle, but definitely making progress with my high caloric diet and training regimen (OVT)…I guess ill just wait a year from now, and find out myself.
