oh yes those are kgs just in case anyone is wondering.
Great to join you all!
Alright guys, i’m new to this site.
I’ve read threads on here before but figured I would finally join and take part in discussions and such.
I’ve been weight training on and off for about 7, 8 years now. But have been more consistent with it for the past 3 years, taking breaks for no longer than 2 months. So I guess i started with weights when I was about 19. Before then, I did mostly press ups, and the odd bodyweight squat, lol.
Like most guys my age, I started out want to become as big as a house. Y’see, i’m ecto semi meso mostly, but I have very broad shoulders, probably broader than most meso, which helps me looking stronger than I possibly am. I’m quite tall at 6,2 and walk around at about 189-191lbs. I think last time I checked my bodyfat was as low as 8%, maybe even less now. So year, for a number of years I basically did bodybuilding style training, taking those weird protein shakes from Holland and Barrett and and such on and off. At the age of 20, my body did get a lil bigger. I was about 12 and a half stone at university (about 175lb). Very weak, lanky and skinny. Even though i’m a bit older now at 26 and only 15lbs heavier, I am heavier naturally and I at least know that it’s a genuine 15lbs of muscle, not just overall bulk.
Anyways, to cut a long story short, I have recently engaged with strength training over the past year, focusing purely on strength rather than hypertrophy, and honestly, I wish I had done this in my early twenties. How can one build a strong athletic body by just benching 60kgs (135lbs) and squatting 50kgs (110lbs)???
I’ve done deadlifts numerous of times before, but have paid special attention to it for just over a year now, bringing it up from 100kgs (220) to 145kgs (320lbs). Never do more than 5 reps, and i’ve got a 84inch wing span so I think I have some leverages that help with that, hence why it’s by far my best lift.
However, in comparison to my deadlift, my squat is the shits. I have long long legs, and wanted to get up recently as I haven’t been able to squat more than 90kgs (198lbs) for a few reps. I did the MARK RIPPETOE Starting Strength workout, doing it exactly as written in the book with the exception of the milk bullshit. I admit, I don’t eat like a horse, but I did manage to get my squat to 100kgs (220), although I can’t seem to do more than one set with that. So I guess i’ve hit a wall since I have already done a 10% deload.
Anyways, sorry for the long intro, just wanted to give everyone an idea as to who I am and where I am. Thanks for those who even skim read it!!
Good Day all,
I am new to this site and glad I found a place dedicated to what I want to become. I am a 35 y/o single father of 3. After suffering a major life change over the last 5 years I have decided that I either need to get busy living or get busy dying.
Well I already tried dying and Satan decided he didn’t want to give up his throne yet so I guess it’s time to try living. With that said, I have decided that I want to become a Strongman. I have no stats to post because, I just started in the gym so lifting the bar really doesn’t impress anyone but me. I have been ridiculed by many, teased by many and supported by few. I am here to read alot, ask questions that many will find dumb and annoying, but I am ultimately here to become a Strongman and eventually compete in a competition and show everyone that will power and desire will overcome anything!!!
Thanks for listening to me ramble.
Rob

Howdy. I’ve been lurking T-Nation for years, I figured it was time to join. I’ve been weightlifting on and off for about 7 years. I played Soccer up until 18 so I’ve always been athletic. I’ve wasted a lot of time over the years not accomplishing much of anything. Up until this year I never weighed more than 180lbs at 5’11".
I’ve been doing a proper bulk and I finally hit 200lbs, which was a long time goal of mine. I’m in the process of cleaning up my diet and adding cardio to my routine. My current goal is to try to lean out without sacrificing size and strength. I’ve always done high reps, and as result I didn’t get very strong. I don’t think you get the same intense workout as you would doing 4-6 reps.
Current lifts
Bench: 195lbs x 5
Squat: 225 x 5
Deads: 275 x 4
I’m hoping at the end of the year i’ll have added 100lbs to each lift. Anyway, good to finally be a member.
i want to boot up my testosterone quick.i want a heavy squat and solder base program for 5 days a week with some power workout.so plz help me.i am highly impress from Mr.thibaudeau.
Whats up everyone. Seems like there is a lot to be learned here. I am Hitter 6’0" 225lbs I have been doing strongman for acouple years now and am thinking about transitioning into BB. I power lifted early in my life but never liked the judging. Hit and miss training for years got real serious for a while stayed around 250 to 260lbs had a shit diet. Learned how to diet and exercise right and am almost as strong at 225 then I was at 250 and feel a lot better. I am glad to meet you all.
Hi all. I’ve been lurking around for the past six or so months and have been reading mostly articles (several a day, especially when I need to read those funny ones by TC Luoma). I decided to join today and may in the future contribute in some meaningful way, but for now I will be mostly quiet (at least that’s the plan). I’m new to training in a gym (less than a year) and will probably post more information on that at some point.
I’m new to this forum and this style of supplement. I’m a former Highish profile football player and competitive lifter. I’ve been in the Marines for the past few years and my weight, body fat % and overall strength training is highly inconsistent due to deployments. I’m tying to make one more run at college football and this seems to be the place to seek advice as well as purchase supplements. Is this the place for me or should i go elsewhere?
respectfully,
the man who is tired of GNC “experts”
I’m not necessarily new to T-Nation. My father me check this site out, and I have use every since.
Hi everybody, my name is Alan, I’m from Northern Ireland, 22 years old. I’ve been reading on here for quite awhile, and eventually decided to join the forum. I Started messing about with weight training at 13, and didn’t have much of a notion whatsoever about what I was doing, messing around with DB’s at home really. Eventually I joined a gym when I was able to, and started picking up a bit of a clue as I met other people and had actual equipment to use.
I used to follow a primarily bodybuilding style program until about 4 years ago when I entered my first power meet. After that went very badly (my own fault of course) I decided just to continue what I had been doing before, on otherwards screwing around without a proper program or goal.
About a year and a half ago I found Jim Wendler’s 5/3/1 program from a guy who works in my gym, who I gather was tired of seeing me messing about with assistance exercises all the time, putting in effort but getting nowhere overall. So I went into it using old numbers, from about 2 years previously, and I’ve never looked back. I’m kicking myself all over that I squandered so much time by not following a proper strength program, but at least I finally woke up
. The training has been going well the past while, but eating and sleeping have always been where I let myself down most. Hopefully I can get my act together in that department to make the most of the work done in the gym.
I’ve never tested bodyfat %, but weight is 136lbs/61.8kg as of now and height 5 ft 4.
Numbers for main lifts (done in the gym other than the Deadlift single) are:
Squat - 313.5lbs/142.5kg x 2, 308lbs/140kg x 5
Deadlift - 353lbs/160kg single (competition lift, weight @60.4kg/133lbs in 66kgs & under class). 302.5lbs/137.5kg x 6 from a deficit.
Bench Press - 247.5lbs/112.5kg single, 220lbs/100kg x 5.
Push Press - 176lbs/80kg x 1
Front Squat - 198lbs/90kg x 5
well, after 7 years, i’m back.
i was very active here, once, but let myself go.
i am now 185 lbs. of chewed bubblegum, but after almost two years off, from a baseball pitching injury, i finally have a fire under my ass.
my T levels dropped to ridiculous levels…i was borderline female…haha… so, now i am at 100mg, twice a week. eating a bit better, etc… on one scale, i was 217. normal T range started at 250
my humerus bone snapped in half, while pitching… it’s rare, but it happens. i was staying fairly active in an adult fast-pitch baseball league… when the arm snapped, i damaged my radial nerve, and couldn’t lift my wrist or my thumb…only grasp. my wrist was a limp noodle for about 5 months. i lost a lot of strength in my upper forearm, due to not being able to use it at all.
i’m right handed, and tattoo for a living, so it was rough going for a while, but all is back to normal… that was almost 2 years ago… i wont go into me breaking it again, 8 months later…doing the same shit, but having the plate and screws from my first surgery, actually helped it from being too bad, even though the screws were the cause.
anyway, i’m back…lets see where this goes.
