I was watching a special on snipers a few nights ago and saw some guy shoot a .50 cal.
I would like to shoot one of those just for fun.

Well, a .375 is considered the “ideal” rifle over in South Africa (at least by the professional hunters we were with), just because it can take down just about everything and it’s actually a law that it’s the smallest caliber rifle you can take certain game with (cape buffalo, lion, elephant even I think).
As far as hunting in the lower 48 goes I think getting a .308 should let me handle mule deer, white tail and elk with ease.

I would LOVE to shoot a .50 cal. Hell, I wish I could go on the show “Top Shot” and shoot the things they get to.
Yeah, a .308 will be more than enough for those animals. Ever bowhunt? That’s next on my “to-do” list as far as hunting goes.

I’ve been bowhunting every year since I was 13. My advice is practice practice practice. I’d estimate the best archers in the world have a max range around 50 yards. I think I’m pretty decent and I wouldn’t take a shot more than 15-20 yards. And don’t skimp on your equipment, find an outfitter who will take your measurements and get you a proper fitting bow.

Yeah, went bow hunting one season for white tail, stupidest animal to walk the earth, back in Iowa. Took a button buck on the last day of the season, never went again. That was years ago.
I would be much more interested in muzzle loader if a had to choose one. All the pros of early season hunting without the drawbacks (pun intended) of bow hunting.

Yeah, I wouldn’t be super confident in shooting over 30 yards, honestly. Unless I was losing my opportunity for a monster or something, then maybe. I’ve got a real nice Hoyt Rampage XT that I’m getting dialed in, I just haven’t used it for anything other than target shooting so far. Someday though…

Haha, they do seem pretty stupid, even thought they’re equal to humans…
Anyway, muzzleloaders are cool. I haven’t shot one in about 15 years, but I do remember it being pretty awesome

That kind of sums up the draw backs.
The year I went I practiced almost daily for over a month.
I ended up taking a shot at 15 feet. Yes 15 FEET.
White tail are full retard. I could have killed that thing with a knife on a stick.

Some humans, maybe.
What happened is I used a cover sent of fox piss on my boots and apple scent on my pack.
Can’t tell you which one it was but the buck followed the path I walked right up to my spot. First time he did it I just scared him off as I was interested in a bigger buck I saw while scouting. Then he did it on the last day and I took him. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Same deer both times? Damn, they are dumb aren’t they? I’ve been watching tons of bowhunting on TV and seeing these guys grunt or whistle at them and having the buck just stand there, looking around like “derp derp” until they get whacked off (lol). Crazy.
Can you break down what you consider Equal? I mean you admit to eating meat so does that mean you agree with killing every now and then when you feel like it?
That’s exactly what he means. He must.
The killing of an African elephant, even though its meat is not wasted, is a capital crime.
The killing of an American steer, even thought its meat is not wasted, is “OK” with Roguie cuz he only eats it occasionally at a BBQ.

I guess that is why we never got an answer.
