New Powerlifter

I plan on competing in my first powerlifting comp this holiday season and I was wondering what kind of numbers should I expect from competitors. For reference, I am 21, 5’ 10, and will lift at either 198 or 220.

What’s the meet? There’s a good chance PowerLiftingWatch has the previous year’s meet results.

dkovash,

Congrats on making the commitment to do your first meet. Like many of us, I’m sure you’re super competitive. You should focus that competitive fire on beating your current numbers. Don’t get distracted by what your competition may or may not look like. You could take first place because nobody else shows up in your class. Focus on performing the lifts to the standards of the organization and walking in ready to give it 100%.

Powerlifting is a marathon, not a race…you will be much stronger this time next year if you stick to it. Look at the chart below. Find you raw total…ok now look at the next level up…there’s your competition, there’s your goal.

Good luck.

I’d like to compete for the first time next year, and I’ve just started a forum thread on here asking people for any help they could give me…

So from one beginner to another… good luck!

Remember, This is a marathon, not a sprint. Stick with it, powerlifting is a great sport.
