5b.100 pushups several sets

Boy do I hate regular deads and those front reverse lunge things. But I guess they’re good for me. Diet is going well.

Off to Syracuse,NY tomorrow night and coming back Sunday night. My youngest has a hockey tournament. Playing some Canadian teams…we’re gonna get killed.

The muscle-head’s universal truth:

The more you hate it, the better it is for you.

The universal truth about hockey:

Canada will always win… unless the Russains are having a good day.

That’s a really solid deadlift… especially with a fat bar!

You’re right about the more you hate it the better it is for you.

I keep hoping the US will kick Canada’s ass.

I’ve deadlifted 550lbs semi-sumo. But I’m so inflexible that any weight with regular deads just kills my low back.

One thing about dropping 20lbs, it will really improve your already impressive chinning numbers.

Semi-sumo? Is that hands between legs but feet not too wide?

When was your 550 and what are you good for now?

Is the strongman training stuff making you noticeably stronger yet?

Your training is very interesting and varied.

Good C&P and 50 chins is pretty good even over several set. Haven’t riden in a while but isn’t 1.5km in 7:33 min kinda…leisurely?

Harry 5 km in 7:33. I’m not in that bad of shape!

Brett, you’re right about the chins and semi sumo. I’ve pulled 550 a few times. But only once in competiton a year or two ago. I think I can still pull at least 500.

Just got back from Syracuse. My son and I had a great time. The team lost every game but he did well and hung out will all his teammates in the pool and playing knee hockey. I hung out with the parents and drank Jim Beam and diet gingerale.

Oh, now I see. Misread that. Glad you and the son had a good time. Only way to to drink bourbon is straight or with branch water. Got a stream near you?

Harry,it’s -9 degrees outside so no streams available until spring. Guess I’ll have to drink it straight up.

I just ordered a trap bar online. Anyone use one. Like it or hate it??

I don’t have one but I’ve strongly onsidered getting one to use for BBB deads to ease low back issues while still working on DL strength. Let me know how it goes for you.

Joe, I was thinking the same thing. BBB and low back. It won’t be here for a couple weeks but I’ll definitely let you know how it goes.

box squat 16’’ box 135x5,225x5,295x5,335x5,385x5,405x1
box squat 14’’ box 405x1,1
powertec squats 5 sets x 10 reps
GM 135x5x5

All weights were light. Really worked on form. Engaged lats, arched low back, chest up,sit back, knees out.

i got my pr pull last summer with a hex bar. You can definitely use more leg and less back. I won’t get one because I need the back work. It definitely changes the angles.

I take that back, if I had one, I’d load it and use it like a rickshaw, and walk around with it. you can do that.

1a.bench 225x5,255x5,275x5,315x1,365x1
1b.chins 35x4x2reps BWx10
2a.MP 155x5x10reps
2b.fat bar BB rows 165x5x10reps (overhand grip)
3. EZ bar curls 3 sets

Benching I really tried to work on a good arch, keeping tight and holding my breath.

I cut a couple PVC pipes to put over my DB handles. I now can make 1.5 and 2.5 inch fat DBs. Use them next upper body workout.

Great work, Steve…as usual. And it sounds like you are having my kind of weather. Not that I ever get it.

When does hockey season run from?

Steve, I’ve been away from your log far too long! For someone that says has no direction in his training, you are knocking it out of the park!.. I dont know any hockey references …

Skip, I believe NH is having record snow fall for the month of January. Stuff is piled all over the place. Hockey season starts the end of Aug/beginning of Sept. If you make the playoffs you end in the middle of April if you don’t then the end of March. Friggin’ long season. No time for anything else.

Wilson, was is something I said? You don’t come around any more. Just kidding. Its tough to keep up with all the threads. I can’t do it. Work and home have been to busy.

That is a REALLY long season. We played in state my So., Jr. and Sr. years (football)…15 games. And we only went from late Aug. to the middle of Dec.

Sounds like you have to be really dedicated to ride out a hockey season.

Hockey families are amongst the most dedicated ever. It’s a lifestyle for sure. Lots of miles racked up for sure.

Eco- when are the practice ice times? How many games/wk?

Eco nice work…

I just started using a trap bar at my crappo ymca.
Its fun for additive reps or as Joe said might be good for BBB

I find its easier- then pulling conventional

and really good for developing an arched position

Skip, football has such a different rhytem then hockey. With football you practice all week for one game. Hockey has several practices and several games a week.

Steely, each kid had 3 practices a week and 2-4 games every weekend. Its rare to have a day off. Maybe 1-2 days without hockey a month.

KMC,thanks for your trap bar review. I can’t wait to get mine.
