New Hampshire Training

Great work in here, Steve. Its weird, but I can’t pull sumo to save my life. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. [/quote]
Thanks Jack. My sumo stance is very narrow. Not much wider then shoulder width. Same as my squat stance. But you’re so correct about different strokes for diff folks.

Hey there, you had asked about what I’m doing for sled sprints. I actually end up doing them before deadlift day and I to go heavier on the easier weeks and lighter on the heavy weeks. And by light I mean the sled +45lbs and sprint backwards and forwards on grass. Distance varies but it’s typically 20 - 30 yards. I’ve been doing more backward dragging sprints lately too.

I will definitely try the sledgehammer work too sometime. You just hit a tire right?

Yep I just hit the tire. Over on Ross training there are a few sledgehammer workouts.

6/17

  1. 250 sledgehammer swings
  2. 8 25 yard led sprints

6/18
1a. squats 295x5,335x5,385x10
1b. MP (1st rep cleaned) 145x5,165x5,195x10
2a. bowflex chest press/flyes 260x12,12,8,7,6
2b. sldl 2’’ deficit 295x5x5

Trying to up the conditioning. Lowered my training maxes so I don’t burnout to quickly.

6/20
10x25 yard sled sprints

3 sets pullups
3 sets push ups

Unseasonably hot here today, 95 degreees. That’s usually July weather up here.

Really? I didn’t think it ever got that warm up there.
We, on the other hand, have been unseasonably moderate. Haven’t hit 100 yet. Very strange.

Today will be the 3rd day in a row of 90+ degrees. Our first official heat wave of the year. I couldn’t be happier. I love the warm weather.

6/22 5 f***ing am

1a.semi-sumo deads 135x5,225x5,295x5,335x5,385x5
1b.bench 135x5,230x5,275x5,300x3
2.clean and press 135x3,155x3,175x3,195x3,225x1

This weekend is going to be stupid busy. If I do workout it’ll be either 11 pm or 5 am. So I dragged my ass out of bed for a go through the motions workout. Once again I applaud all of you early morning lifters. Don’t know how you do it on a regular basis.

Nice work in here. 5 a.m. is tough if you are not used to it. I did it for two years when I had a regular office job and it sucks, but if its gotta get done its gotta get done. They key is lots of coffee and stimulants pre-made and ready for consumption right when you get up.

Jack,I tell myself a bad 5 am workout is better then no workout at all. Luckily I workout at home and don’t have to drive anywhere so I can just roll out of bed and head right to the basement. Two years of 5 am workouts…must have been a long 2 years for you.

6/23
1.250 sledgehammer swings
2.10x25 yard sled sprints

I can do more hammer swings without resting and finish 250 reps quicker now. And the sprints still kick my ass but I don’t feel like dying now.

104 degrees here, right now. Can I send it your way, since you love warm weather?

104 might be a little much. It rarely gets that hot here. The weekend was in the 80’s with no humidity here. Had a BBQ yesterday and ate way too much.

Had a very unflattering video taken of me yesterday without my shirt on. Not severely grotesque but ugly enough for me to want to do something about it.

^ Dont feel bad, been there done that.

Time to get in to the BB’ing mode and get out the banana hammock

See what I can do DJ. I feel good about the conditioning work I’ve been doing. Now I have to somehow get a better handle on the food intake.

Constant battle for sure.

My problem is I like beer, rum and Crown. Then I like to eat chips and burgers after having a few of those.

Good work Steve.

What is the weight of the Sledgehammer?
What type of surface are the sled sprints on? (what weight)

Rick, my sledgehammer is 12 lbs. I’m going for a quick, strong swing with a lighter hammer. I use a tractortrailer tire as a sled. I looked it up online and it weighs 100 lbs. I drag on grass. I have a bunch of cement blocks I can add for weight but haven’t yet when I sprint.
