When you lift the stones, do you lift them to ‘load’ height, or do you shoulder them?
I can shoulder and press the 212 lb stone (no easily). The rest I try to lift to chest height.
I’ve been in contact with a big highland games guy, Bill Crawford, who lives a couple towns over. We’re gonna hopefully lift some stones soon. This guy guy has lifted a bunch of the big stones in Scotland. Maybe give me some lifting advice. Now just to find a free weekend day…
some buddies of mine from the Corps are talking about coming to town to play. One of them is a strongman competitor/powerlifter. We’ve been talking about going to the strongman gym for 2-3 hours of feats of strength, to be followed by 2-3 hours of drunken absurdity and retelling of history.

Holy crap, thats a workout… doing it 3 times on the same day is insane (haha)…but no stone carries as a cooooooooool down…slacker!
always impressed when I read this log!
Damn triple post. I hit the submit command and nothing happened. So like the elevator button I just kept on pressing it. I’m hoping to carry some stones tomorrow. Maybe hit a distance PR with my 212 lb stone.

How do you judge your distances accurately with the carries?
Do you have your lawn laid out with chalk lines like on an athletics field? It wouldn’t surprise me.
Good luck with that PR attempt.
Brett, the image of chalk lines in my yard got me laughing. I may just do that in the future. For now I’ve staked out 30 yards.
Thanks OG. 226 isn’t much on an olympic bar but damn its a heavy stone to carry.
8/7
Put my headphones on and dragged my sled for 5 or 6 songs. My old tractor trailer tire makes for a good, cheap sled but even without any weight added it’s tough to drag on grass. Good leg burner.
I gotta tell ya, they (major league baseball) has to do something to make these games more meaningful for the yanks and sawx. If either one of em lost control of 1 st place they still would be like 9 games up in the WC!
Though for prides sake, its always fun to beat the sawx and I always hope someone brushes back Youk, hes so funny when hes mad.
As far as football goes…I have total confidence that the pats will win at least 14 games this year…Im a nutty jet fan but Im a realist, they have taken a true step back on the D-line and havent improved their pass rush. Haynesworth has something to play for and Ochostinko is gonna thrive in that system…I just hope Im wrong.
