Skip,I told him if we start training I want him to see this through. And like you said he’ll get to train with his dad (I think thats me).

I am envious. My youngest wants to workout with me, but I have several years before that can really happen. With my wife now in there, though, I think I have a greater chance of getting my daughter in there, in a year or two. She is pretty darned strong. Unfortunately, she is more interested in ballet, though not built for it. I will bite my tongue and encourage her in whatever route she chooses, though.

KP,the APA sends me letters with meet applications every so often. I was about to throw one out the other day when my wife asked me the minimum age to compete. The application has a 11-12 year old division. When my son heard that he was all over me to let him try it.
Well, then. There you go. What’s the down side? Time with your son doing something athletic. Sounds good to me.
My 9 year old kept asking to workout this weekend and my oldest didn’t have any games so I threw something together. I wanted it to be fun and functional. Sunday the three of us worked out together in a rotating fashion. After the hockey season I’ll try and ease them into a more structured ‘low pressure’ regimen. I’m still surprised my 9 year old was so into it. But he’s only 9 and I know it may not last.
Sat 3/5 (just the kids)
trap bar deads 4 sets
MP 4 sets
plank for 60 seconds
Sun 3/6 (I did this workout with them)
1.waiters walks 3 sets each arm
2.suit case carries 3 sets eac arm
3.farmers walks 3 sets
4.1 arms rows 3 sets
When I went to the old gym in town here with the wife and kid, I would do some push-ups, squats, and reverse push-ups on smith machine bar with the 7 year old after my workouts, to keep him happy. Before I started that, he would be getting the 3 and 5 lb dumbbells and doing oh presses with them for an hour while we were working out, and later started getting on the bike next to mommy seeing if he could do more miles than she did, heh. Will start doing more at home with him again once it gets warmer, sprints and such, with push-ups, squats in between.
Kevin, still can’t believe its been a year. Glad you’re having such a great time with him.
Pete,my 11 year old is 5’2’', 140 lbs. His wrists are as big as mine and he wears size 9 1/2 shoes. Not huge but he’s a big boy. My youngest is more like I was as a kid- 50% height and weight.
Ogre, great that you, the wife and son all hit the gym together. I can’t wait to get back to sprinting when all this snow is gone.
Went outside to find my big tire was still in 1.5 feet of snow, full of ice and frozen to the ground. My workout was to get it out of the hole. Not as easy as it sounds.
I looked on-line and found my tire most likely weighs 450 lbs. Goodyear 20.5/25 loader tire. Theres a bigger one in a nearby sand pit I want to get.
and so col that the boys want to train and compete with dad.
when I say that our one year old wants to do what daddy does-
I am not kidding.
I do lots of pvc rolling pushups squats etc at home and little man is all over it.
nice job with the little guys
You day ‘little guys’, but you do realize these are Steve’s kids we are talking about? The 11 year old is probably 5foot8 and 198 by now…
thanks you big uglee bastard…
Im like 5foot5 with big hair and only weigh 198 holding my kid.
sorry for the hijack.
Steve your older boy is bigger then me when I was in my 2nd year of college.

Kev,you’d fit right in with both my wife’s family and mine. I have an uncle 5’2’‘, 3 brother-in-laws 5’4’‘,5’5’‘,5’7’‘. My mom is 4’11’‘. I’m the tallest of everyone at 5’9’'. My oldest boy is surprisingly large for our clans. My wife has assured me he’s mine.
My gym won’t allow my son in until he’s 14 - allegedly for insurance reasons.
He turns 14 this summer, and he wants to start lifting with me the day after his birthday. He’s not very large, but he’s finally showing some signs of growth over the past six months.

Yep 11 singles. I wish 225 for a set of 11. Trying to get in a groove. After 6 or 7 it got easier because I was getting a ‘smoother’ rhythm.
