Kevin, kids can do a learn to skate at 3-4 years old. Around here at 5 years old kids can start to play full gear in house games. From 6-8 years old kids can be on travel hockey teams: 2-3 practices a week, 2-4 games on the weekend, away tournaments, etc. I’ve heard of some kids getting on skates as early as 2. I married into a hockey family. Father-in-law owns the hockey store in town. 2 out of 3 of my wifes brothers played in college. My wife wanted to play but her parents wouldn’t let her. Funny thing is I can’t skate.

2a. 1/2 bench starting in bottom position, worked up to 405x1

I worked up to 265 on these the other day and thought that was OK.

He does have a bad habit of doing that.

Thanks guys. My tris ache today so the partial rom benching must have done something.
So you start on pins at the bottom? Sounds very heavy. I really need to try some of this stuff.
If you read this Kevin, get your kid in the pool. Their crawl is a swimming crawl.

Guess we have even more in common than I thought. I married into a hockey family as well, and have never skated in my life.
Thank you for taking Hockey questions seriously, Its allot to think about.
I don’t want to force little man into anything- I competed against those kids and parents.
I do want little man to swim right now its a shot thing - we missed a flu shot so he still cant go
now.

We got Erik in the pool before he turned 2pm with mommy n me swim lessons. Good stuff for a young’n, and almost impossible to get hurt.
I started skating at 2 years of age, playing hockey (Minor Atoms)… which by todays standard would be the equivalent of Tim-Bit hockey I guess…
There are kids in my neighbourhood now skating at the same age… But organised hockey really starts around 5 years of age. If they have “Power Skating” in your area, that is a good teacher for the young-uns.
What are ab rolls? 225 sounds very heavy for an ab exercise.
Ever seen those ab wheel things. Just do the same thing with a loaded bar. I used 225 because I’m lazy and didn’t want to change the weight that was already on the bar.
My 11 year old son wants to compete in a powerlifting meet in July with me (he’ll be 12 by then). I’m not sure if its a good idea and if he will stick to the training. Any thoughts??

It is awesome that he wants to do that. If you feel that he is physically at a point where he can train hard without issues, the only downside might be an ego check. If he is competitive, though, (which is a no brainer) it might give him fuel for the fire.
Not to mention, doing something “manly” with Dad is pretty freakin’ awesome for a young man.
As for sticking with the training, you could just make that a condition of competing. My Dad never forced me to do anything. Once I committed to something, though, I was forced to ride it out to the end. Quitting was not an option. It taught me very well to choose wisely the things that I wanted to pursue.

One of my training partner’s has his 11 and 13 year olds doing meets. They love it. The 13 year old especially is way into it. Little 130lb gear whore, he just his a deep 315 squat in the gym last Saturday.
Depending on the fed rules, you would probably have to talk to the meet director and have the kid enter as a ‘guest lifter’.
Skip,I told him if we start training I want him to see this through. And like you said he’ll get to train with his dad (I think thats me).
Pete, cool your buddy’s sons are into it. 315 at 13 is scarey strong.
KP,the APA sends me letters with meet applications every so often. I was about to throw one out the other day when my wife asked me the minimum age to compete. The application has a 11-12 year old division. When my son heard that he was all over me to let him try it.
