Great to see you guys having fast results, so have inspired me to get into it again for 3 - 4 weeks, now that my exams are over and my brain doesn’t need so much glucose! I had been doing meltdown for 5 weeks and lost 5 kg’s then did FF + meltdown and lost 2 kg in 1 week. I have been able to maintain new weight for 2 weeks. So will see how I go this time FF + will do German Body Comp as well. I have about 1300 cals per day, with about 20-40g carbs. Like the idea of big eat day at the weekend, should help me from going too psycho, with cravings.
Thanks for the pre-summer inspiration.
Day 2 has been easier then day one, except for the fact that there are so many college footballs game on. My ideal Saturday was plunking my ass into the coach and watching and snacking all day long. I am a bit confused though, Big Bruva states that on Day 7 he is going to consume 2500-3000 calories of protein and carbs??? I did not think there was a cheat day on Fat Fast, did I miss something?
Big Bruva, are you saying that my bodyfat went up as a result of losing water weight? I have done keto-diets for 6 years now and this has never happened before. Generally the caliper readings would go down from me losing water weight. Now it seems they went up. Plus the readings are very inconsistent from day to day. Therefore, I have been going by the mirror and waist measurements instead as my primary indicators. It is weird it is almost as if the skin became more lose from the subcutaneous water not taking up space, and thus led to a higher reading. Maybe it was so drastic and I lost so much because I cycled off creatine at the same time I started dieting.
Jason, I’m doing it for both sanity and safety. The sanity part is quite self explanatory. In terms of safety, I don’t want to risk any potential muscle loss. Sure, I’m taking my fair share of Methoxy-7 and doing everything right, however, I’ve worked hard for some good gains and a cautious approach can’t hurt at all.
kiwi - I started this immediately after my exams finished! The need for carbs during such an important time of the year is obvious, but now I'm enjoying the opportunity to shed some fat. Today has been quite hot here in Melbourne, and I've been spending it shirt-less, enjoying the sun and feeling good about my progress. Glad my ramblings are of some benefit.
Day 7: Damn, that was fun! 2900 calories including 400g of carbs and around 250g protein, with minimal fat. All of that was clean - the majority coming from oatmeal, whey protein powder, tuna, fruit & vegetables, and small amounts of rice and whole wheat bread. The beauty is, it was all planned and done as I wanted. Despite the fibre I’ve been taking sparingly throughout the FF, it was nice to get 75 grams of the stuff coming (guess I should subtract all that roughage from my carb total!) from clean food sources, rather than disgusting psyillium(sp?) husks! I could sit all of my exams in one go right now - my brain is pumping. I can’t wait for week 2! =) Bring it on!!!
Steve - that was my best guess, anyway. The mirror and how you feel is the best way to go. I’m presuming you want to look good nekkid, rather than be a set of nice numbers.
Day 8: A good day, again. Just held onto a nice 5-4 lead to win a tightly fought indoor soccer match against opposition we would have once lost to. Shedding a bit more fat added a lot to my performance, and I wasn’t at all flat on the low calories because of yesterday’s re-feed. Very pleasing =) Tomorrow presents a major challenge - I have to attend the Melboune Cup (horse race, big day with lots of drinking and partying). On top of that, its a corporate function which makes life very difficult to keep with the FF. I’m in two minds: 1. call off the FF for tomorrow and ditch Sunday’s re-feed - just take everything sensibly and in moderation and not blow things too badly or 2. stick to my guns and suffer badly - such an event is really tough to stick to something like the FF. At this stage, I’m going to approach the day as planned - it will be another day of FF-ing. I will moderate things and see how it all pans out. Nothing I can’t deal with I’m sure, although I’m really stuck between both options…
Damn, I thought this thread had died! Glad to see it’s see still kickin’ along! Well, I’m in week 6 of cutting up, and am on an ico-caloric diet (1/3 cals from each macro). Slowly re-introducing the carbs after FFing, and the fat is still coming off. As my body has proven notorious for dropping muscle f#cking fast when I drop the cals too much, I’ve left them up around 1700-1900 the whole time. On my 5th week of Meltdown training too, and had a strength week a little while back to mix it up. I’m devising a detailed ‘recomposition’ period for after the cutting cycle, to get the muscle back that I lost but keep the fat off. I’ll keep you posted. Hang in there folks - It’s all worth it!!!
Yesterday, Day 9, was really a mess in terms of the FF. Given the circumstances I was expecting too much, but I’ll just extend it by a day to compensate, and ditch the re-feed at the end. Next Monday, having finished FF-ing, I’ll be hitting the training really intensely, most likely some hybrid Renegade style stuff, with a Massive Eating/Iso-caloric type diet (under maitenance cals still, but not too low at all).
Yesterday was messed up for me as well. Today is day 6 (I believe) and things are going well. I do not have the desire to eat as much as I did in the past and the afternoon cravings are gone as well.
I’m not currently on the FF but I have used 5-htp. It seems if I take around 50mg then about 30-60 minutes later have a protein shake, my appetite is gone for 3-4 hours. Without the 5-htp I would be hungry in around 1 hour. Hope this helps.
I have a question for the rest of you FatFasters. Do any of you incorporate whole food at all, or are you full bore shakes and shakes only. Is the program effective only if you consume flax oil and protein, or is the effectiveness derived from the fact that you are taking in 50% of your maintenance and none to very little carbs. I am on my 3rd day of the FF and even though I like it so far, I know that I will go nuts from the lack of solid food. Those of you who do eat food, what do you eat? Please let me know soon as my will to cram something down my throat is ever increasing.
I think it helps to have whole food so you get different types of fats in your diet. I figure that’s gotta help in some way… [shrug] When I was FFing (and even now on an iso-caloric diet) I eat cheese and bacon. I just CAN’T go without my bacon… [drools] Oh, and whole food helps a lot when you’re sitting on the can too… LOL
Mark, thanks a lot for the info. I am really focused to get shredded. The thought of being able to ingest food instead of “Liquid” is awsome. As for the Sitting Bull imitation, I am not having that much trouble (if you consider liquid a major deal coming out the other end LOL. Thanks though for the help
Yesterday (Day 10) was great - stuck to the diet to the letter and had a massive workout. Went crazy with rope work, farmers walks, and towel chins! Today, Day 11, has been okay. I was unexpectedly caught without any food for most of the day, but I managed to get my hands on a gourmet sausage. It came with bread, so I ditched that and just ate the meat. That was quite a saviour. Also was roughly able to fit it into my food log, and cals are more or less on track. A brief but intense workout for today - short period of rope work followed by a deadlift, bent-over row, and bench press full-body circuit. Didn’t have much time, and had to maximise it. Its nice to get through a difficult and challenging day having not screwed up =) As for the whole food question - I rarely eat anything else! I can’t stomach protein and oil shakes - especially with the crap Australian brands of protein I use. Cheese, beef, chicken, tuna, and good old eggs, are the staples of this diet for me. Three days to go - both feeling and looking much leaner. Can’t wait to get stuck into some hardcore training on higher calories.
I’m ending this diet today. Two reasons - firstly, I’m sick =( Got quite a nasty cough and sore throat, and my asthma is playing up - I want to recover ASAP, so FF is of no help there! Secondly, I’m going out with a hottie for lunch today and want to enjoy myself. Plus, I’ve made heaps of progress - lost a lot of fat and feeling great. On Monday I’m starting my own blend of hardcore Renegade training with an isocaloric diet around maitenance calories. I still expect to continue dropping fat given the hugely taxing nature of the training I’ll be doing. Over the weekend I’m sticking to an isocaloric diet, albeit in deficit. Good luck to those who are still hanging in there and shedding fat! =)
Well Renegades, I’m posting it here fiorst (even before our own website!). I’ve finished the Fat Fast diet and my results were excellent (I think - haven’t seen the final pics yet). According to the electronic body composition analyzer I lost 4.5% bodyfat and gained 3 full pounds of lean body mass. Now that, my friends, is a successful diet!
After another week of dieting I have lost a total of 23.5 lbs. Not too shabby. My four pack is getting quite defined and for the first time in my life, yesterday, I started to see the outlines of a six pack. I am getting very excited to see how lean I can get. My LBM has remained virtually unchanged from after the first 1.5 weeks where I lost a lot of water weight and weight held from creatine. I know this by measurements which have remained the same since. For instance I lost 1/4" on my arms right away and they’ve been the same size since. I really think I am keeping the muscle on and burning off the fat. Well, one more week of Fat fast style, then 1 week anabolic and one week of gradual carb reintroduction. Until next week…
Sorry I did not get to post yesterday. I had another good week of dieting. I lost another 2 lbs., and I’m certain it was all fat. I started taking creatine the past week about 5 grams in the during workout Surge and 8 after. I really noticed the muscles get fuller by the end of the week. In fact I didn’t lose any weight until the last day on. I think I am going to extend the fat fast portion even one more week for one final low cal week. I’m so close to having a decent six pack that I don’t want to stop now. I think this extra week will help plus I have another week of the regular anabolic type diet w/ more carbs followed by a gradual carb up week at roughly maintenance calories. So when all is said and done I should look pretty damn cut. Anyway I’ll keep you guys posted.
It seems there’s a bunch of us (well, I’m just finishing) on a diet of some kind, so as this thread is getting quite long I’m going to start a new one called the “Getting Shredded Support Group”. Cheers.
