My mom is in her mid-50’s and obese. She has never been involved in an committed workout routine in her entire life. She asked me to write a workout routine for her. I’m used to writing routine’s out for my friends my age (early 20’s) but I don’t have much experience in designing a routine for older people in her current state of health. I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions.
I’m very concerned for her health because her dad passed away from a heart attack at roughly the same age she is now. I don’t want to lose my mom. She just went in and got a stress test done and the results were normal. So there doesn’t seem to be any immediate danger but I’m still worried about her.
I was thinking 3 days a week. Maybe one upper body training session and lower body training sessions a week followed by 20-30 minutes of cardio at a slow pace and then the 3rd day would be 30-45 minutes in the pool. Something nice and easy just to get her body use to training and not something that’s so difficult it will scare her away from training. Later on I would add in more training days. What do you guys think of this?
I appreciate the help ![]()
