Im pretty new to Oly lifts. Ive been practicing my Snatch tech. for the last couple months or so, got the technique down, all to do now is start working on how much weight i can handle. Whats really killing me now though is my Clean technique. My first pull just doesnt feel right, maybe its becuase im a huge DL fan. They say if you wanna learn how to clean, you gotta stop DLing until your clean tech. is perfect, but i cant afford to lost progress on dead now.
And my “catch” at the top isnt right. When i reach the top of the 2nd pull, the bar hops up and acts like its going to hit me in the effing chin, I cant really go up in weight becuase i havent develoved that explosiveness in my upper back and traps yet. Really working hard to get this lift down. Im really just looking for ANY advice i get, just throw everything at me you got! I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks, you guys are the best.
maybe some hang pulls to get explosive first?
do it with the bar till its perfect, then 25’s then 35’s then 45’s and so on, babysteps
i often have to reduce my weight before going heavy to make sure i have the form engrained in my brain
I will tell you right now that if you think you’ve “got the technique down,” you don’t. Not a knock, but just the truth.
Set up a video camera. You might see something wrong that you can’t feel while lifting.

So true. Even elite athletes spend decades perfecting their technique.
OP, post some videos here, there are a lot of people on here who might be able to make suggestions. Of course they’re no substitute for a coach which would the best way to improve form with oly lifts, even if you’re doing them for GPP or recreationally. Go to the USAW and find a local club in your area.

I have to agree you need a coach. I have a coach and i have been doing these lifts exclusivly since the beginning of the year. My form still isn’t that great. I am still unable to snatch anywhere near my strength level.
according to my coaches and most fellows I talk to, it takes a good 5 years to get decent technique in the lifts, and 10 years to get good at it.

My coach has told me 7 years till I will be really competative on a national level. Thats if i even have the genetics get there.
I figure i should give it a shot anyway.
