Need Advice

Hey guys i currently have beenk bulking and i am around 270 right now. I love the bulk and i feel like i have been getting stronger and bigger but i know i have been adding some fat-- which is normal for bulking. My question is currently i have done no cardio and only focues on weights, i want to cut down on my fat and tighen up a bit but my main goal is still to gain muscle mass and get bigger. Any opionions on what i can do ?

Clean up your diet.

Honestly i dont know how much cleaner my diet can be. No junk food, no sweets, no soda. I eat Meat, vegetables , pasta , and protetin shakes. Every day all day.

Don’t think too much into it. At this stage, if you want to continue to add mass but are putting on too much fat, bring your caloric intake down or start incorporating some cardio into your regime. Myself, I usually prefer to change only one variable at a time and start with a small change in that variable.

Ok yeah its not that ive added ALOT its just a notice a bit around the waist. How much cardio should i implement? i was thinkin twice a week for 30 mins to start. Would that bring the fat down or is it pretty much if you wanna get big you get big and than cut

Try shaving a few hundred calories off your carb intake a day, but it doesn’t sound like have you much to worry about.

Bulking is an interesting venture for all of us who need to pack on an extra ten or twenty lbs here or there. Excess fat unfortunately is a bi-product of bulking, especially because most builders who aren’t able to purchase $400 worth of supplements and are merely force feeding themselves as much carbs and protein as possible.

Now, obviously what I say isn’t the perfect method, nor will it be what another trainer or builder would tell you. The great thing about this sport is the fact that there is no exact way to go about improvement, different methods work for different people.

First off for me and what I have always suggested, is to shorten your lift breaks. Instead of an minute and a half to two minute break, shorten it to 30 seconds. This will increase your heart rate, which in turn begins speeding up your metabolism which will burn that excess fat you are adding.

Secondly, incorporate the Sauna into your post-workouts, its a bear, but it’ll help shed the water weight that supplements will add to your figure. I first fell in love with the Sauna in Finland (where it originates) and since then I have made it a point to incorporate them. They are very helpful at removal of “toxins” as well (if you partake in any extracurricular activities).

Lastly, ramp up your protein and minimize your carbs to complex carbs only. Now, I understand that (according to Atkin and others )an increase in protein and a more strict policy with carbs will have you dropping weight, but I’m not staying to cut carbs, I’m telling you to be smart with carbs.

Carbs are fillers, and protein items normally consumed are you “main course” and don’t necessarily have the effect of carbs. Try to reverse this and make your protein your filler and carbs your “main course”. This will have you consuming a great amount of protein and still getting your carbs in.

Hopefully this helps. Like I said, everyone is different, everyone’s body responds differently and if they didn’t every muscle magazine, website, nutritionist and/or trainer would tell you to do the same exact thing. The important thing is to try what we’re all saying, see which one works, and then be determined to stay the course. Good Luck!

Thanks guys so much for your advice and tips. Yah its not much fat at all its just noticeable to me when i feel solid except for a little extra on the waist. But thanks guys for the advice im going to shorten breaks between sets like you advised to keep my heart rate up. Thanks guys

If you do this, your lifts might suffer. Yes, some people use this as a form of cardio, but I think you’d benefit more from just 10-20 minutes of HIIT cardio twice a week, all while keeping your intensity at the gym.
But, thats just me.

Even more effective, keep protein/carb meals in the morning, and protein and fat meals in the afternoon and night and you’ll start to lean up.

Do some cardio with your workout. While I agree that diet will help you cut the fat the fastest. I do think that practically it makes sense to be strong and fast.

If your objective is to just be big, then don’t worry about the cardio. If you want to be somewhat big and be able to run 6 minute miles, then hit the cardio.

I havent heard of HIIT yet but i have read some of the articles base on it. IF i incorporate this maybe twice a week how would that do on taking fat way but yet leaving muscle, i still want to get bigger. The basic idea of HIIT is to sprint Right ?

HITT will mess up your legs something horrible if you haven’t done any running.

Here’s a link to information for beginning running:

HITT is basically interval training, where you sprint and run, rather than jog and walk.
