Need a Platform in Manhattan

Hey guys,

Going to be in the city over New Year’s, and need a place to train on Saturday. Anyone know of a gym with a platform+bumpers where I can drop in for a day? Don’t really want to go all the way out to Queens to LBH if I can help it.

Unfortunately, I didn’t come across your post until today. If you’re ever in Manhattan again and need a platform, I put together a list of places:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=111483738125831281751.000460d81311ef21c818f&hl=en&ie=UTF8&source=embed&ll=40.770662,-73.938675&spn=0.182006,0.291824

If that link doesn’t work, just google ‘NYC Platform Locator’

Your best bet is to see if you can get a free trial pass at either Equinox (only the Columbus Circle location has a dedicated platform), Edge, Club H or Chelsea Piers. The drop-in fees for Chelsea Piers and Velocity are pretty steep (50 dollars/day, I think). PeakPerformance has a nice setup, but does not allow drop-ins.

Yoon, did you make that map yourself? Or is it possible to find platforms in other cities as well? I tried typing in my area of interest, but it only did a normal search and came up with places that had platform in their description.

Unfortunately, it’s something I had to put together, based on my own searching and word-of-mouth from weightlifting friends. I would strongly recommend posting your question on the Olympic lifting forum of GoHeavy…chances are that someone out there might be able to help. Alternatively, if you can find a coach/team in your area and start networking with local lifters, that would be a great resource as well. If none of those options work, try scouring review sites (like a ‘Yelp’ or ‘CitySearch’ for your area), as I was able to get some info that way.

I wish you much luck!

Btw, what city are you in?

I’m a Capital Canuck
