Neck/Arm/Forearm Ratio

Upper Arm: just over17.5 (at the peak)
Calf: 17.5
Neck: 17.25
Forearm: 14.5 (left one is slightly more visually developed but they are equally sized)

My forearms have been a week point but grown nicely with fat bar work. Over a half inch in a year while doing pretty much nothing.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not asking this to be a dick, but with real curiosity.

I would like to see yours and Ct. Rockula.

Don’t be fooled by the measurements. At first glance it looks like I’m bigger than bonez (which I probably am) but he looks a lot better than I do. He’s shorter and leaner. This is bodybuilding, measurements are essentially meaningless when comparing two people. The only signifigance they have is measuring one’s own progress.

Thanks!

Neck: 15"
Upper Arm: 16"
Forearm: 13.25"

Neck, upper arm, and calf should measure as closely as possible.

Generally, you want your forearms to be about 5/6 of your upper arm.
Who says this? Don’t tell me its that crap that came from some dude measuring Greek statues and arriving at ‘the Greek ideal’. Most guys will want their upper arms slightly bigger.
Also if you see a pro BB with 22" arms do you think his physique will look better if he gets his neck up to 22" too? I don’t.

Edit:
Upper arms = 18.5
Neck 18.5
Forearm 14.75

Going by the old Gironda measurements.

edit: Granted, these are based on slightly different proportions that were considered desirable at the time based on the upper limits of development.

I’m assuming if you asked bodybuilding judges now, a lot of it would be similar, just slightly exaggerated proportions.

Regarding that, I’d ask CT.

I can only speak to what standards I personally use for myself and for my clients.

I’d say that those measurements work best for people of, say, Reeves size and proportions or close to that…

For a guy of average height (5’9-5’11? Maybe 5’8 to 6’, I don’t know), assuming you’re not neglecting any muscle-groups…:
As a beginner with arms of 12-15 inches, your neck and calves may well be larger (especially for guys with sub-15 inch arms)… Probably don’t even need to train with weights, regular cycling will do it for the calves and your neck is probably not going to be 12 inches, ever.

When your arms are around 16-18 or so (plus minus), your neck, arm and calf measurements may be fairly similar… Sort of meeting in the middle… But for drug-free people going beyond 19 or so in arm size at that height, I don’t see how the neck is going to keep up (barring that you don’t just get fat), and calves will likely also fall behind no matter what you do… Unless you have some crazy calf genetics.

My neck certainly didn’t get anywhere close to my arm measurement at my largest of a little over 300 pounds at 5’10 a year or so ago… And I store very little fat in my arms, certainly more around the neck area…

Of course chemical enhancement might change the equation here and allow your neck to keep up with your arms past 19 or so inches at average height…

I wouldn’t worry too much about such guidelines personally… A look in the mirror will tell you whether your arms or neck or calves match the rest of you, and that is ultimately up to the individual’s preferences, too.

Neck: 16.5
Upper arm: 17.7
Forearm: 13.5

Here’s a pic of me at about 250lbs and I’m 6 feet by a hair.

Oh, calves are 18 or about that.

Neck-14.5
Upper arm-14.5
forearm-12
calve-16
upper leg-23

Just tossed legs in there for the hell of it. My forearms suck and my calves are way big compared to the rest of me.

Alright you asked for it, and you got it ----

This is my 13.5" forearm.

measured wrong last time. It is 13.5" - hoping to get to 15 within 2 months. I especially want to grow the extensors and brachioradialis(top part)

Just saying, your profile is on private so anyone trying to see this pic can’t unless there is another way and I am just oblivious to it lol.

I’d love to see a picture of a 22 inch neck, but I know we will never get one so it’s alright.

I take that back, bonez is a fat bastard. He’s just got really good definition for a fat guy.

How do we measure the neck? Adam’s apple, below it where the neck starts, above the adam’s apple?

Does it make that much of a difference?
Kerley wrote:
didn’t Vince gironda say they should all measure the same?
Vince (and others) have said Neck, Bicep, and Calf should all be the same measurment for a lean individual for proper symmetry.

He has other symmetry ratios out there, based on Steeve Reeves I believe:

From Steeve Reeves’ book:

Steeve Reeves:

Arms: 18.5 inches
Calves: 18.5 inches
Neck: 18.5 inches
Thighs 27 inches
Chest 54 inches
Waist 30 inches

Arm size= 252% of wrist size
Calf size= 192% of ankle size
Neck Size= 79% of head size
Chest Size= 148% of pelvis size
Waist size= 86% of pelvis size
Thigh size= 175% of knee size

Steve Reevesâ?? height and weight chart for a bodybuilder (natural)
5â??5â?? 160lbs
5â??6â?? 165lbs
5â??7â?? 170lbs
5â??8â?? 175lbs
5â??9â?? 180lbs
5â??10â?? 185lbs
5â??11â?? 190lbs
6â??0â?? 200lbs
6â??1â?? 210lbs
6â??2â?? 220lbs
6â??3â?? 230lbs
6â??4â?? 240lbs
6â??5â?? 250lbs

Anyway, I’d say take it all with a grain of salt. What does “lean” actually mean? Big arms don’t look that impressive on someone with a lot of body fat while smaller measured arms may look much larger if very lean. It’s bodybuilding. It’s all about an illusion.

Another T-Nation thread on the subject of proportions: https://tnation.tmuscle.com/free_online_forum/blog_sports_training_performance_bodybuilding_alpha/about_proportions_in_bodybuilding

It used to be that people pursued “Greek” or “Golden” proportions. Well, those would barely pass the test at your local gym. With the availability of steroids and legal prohormones it’s hard to say what is “ideal” or what one should aim for. It all depends on how “natural” is “natural” and if that’s even your pursuit. Steve Reeves would probably lose in many “natural” shows today but “natural” just means you passed a drug test on that specific day.

Casey Butt also has an interesting calculator: http://www.weightrainer.net/maximum_bodypred.html

Just a bunch of numbers to aim for and pass…

I may be a simple mind, but to me, the bigger is better and proportion have no importance.

I would gladly accept 19 inch arms with a 16.5 inch neck and small calves as I would be happy with legs overpowering my upper body. People noticing my chest is to big for my shoulder and back, is something that I can only wish for at the moment.

The only thing I’m trying to keep proportional is my belly
