This angle apparently emphasizes the long head of the Tricep but I was wondering if anyone was better informed or more experienced with its use vs traditional overhead exercises for Tricep development. Do I need an overhead if I have this? It’s a slight incline above 90 degree shoulder elevation so would stretch the long head more from the scapula but would full 180 degree shoulder elevation (behind the head) promote even more growth vs this?
I have used this machine a couple of times…It’s kind of like the “triceps” version of the elevated biceps machine. Fine for occasional variety, but certainly not a magic-bullet for muscle growth. Remember, the purpose of the triceps muscle is to extend the forearm around the elbow joint. Pretty simple really. So a bit of variety in exercises is probably helpful, but don’t expect miracles out of this or any individual piece of equipment. Intensity, progression, recuperation and a (way big!) helping of good genetics is the real key.
Good training to all!
Does not look like anywhere near the stretch position achieved by overhead triceps movements. A whole lotta expensive ‘meh’ right there… Stick to your overhead (or lying) DB, EZ Bar, and cable movements. In fact, recently I’ve seen 2 or 3 separate learned people tout the effectiveness of the DB Overhead Extension — Dr D’s favorite!
Have used it a lot. Place seat lower than usual and get a very good stretch, definitely comparable to other overhead extensions. With the addition of keeping your arms fixed
