Natural Bodybuilding Organisations

BACKGROUND: Im 6’1", 190lbs atm and although this thread isnt about me per se, I’m still wondering because I want to compete sometime in the future. I have given myself till the end of 2012 to bulk (i know i cant predict how my body will be), then maintain/bulk somemore during 2013, then compete end 2013/start of 2014, just for a taste and for the experience.

REASON FOR THE QUESTION:
I love bodybuilding for the sport, and even if i couldnt compete, I would still strive to be the best i could be, but knowing your competition and what your up against enables you to make goals and it is this in which enables you to keep on pushing yourself further and further.

Obviously being tall, itll take longer for my body to be big enough to be successful (perfect example for IFBB Pro, Toney Freeman, 6’2", now 40 and peaking) but following the comp i plan on continuing to bulk till I feel Im ready to become professional. Again, dreaming big, but who is anyone to tell you, you cant achieve your dreams.

ENOUGH ABOUT ME!!

The question I’m asking is:

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST/MOST RECOGNISED NATURAL BODYBUILDING ORGANISATION IN THE WORLD TODAY?

The reason for the question is that i wanna be the best. And to be the best you have to beat the rest. I love bodybuilding for the sport, and even if i couldnt compete, I would still strive to be the best i could be. BUT knowing your competition and what your up against enables you to make goals pushes you further.

Having a top organisation or the biggest, such as the IFBB for untested competitors, allows you to compete with the best, so in the natural world, what is it??

ANY THOUGHTS/ANSWERS??

SIDE NOTE:
From research I know here in Australia I have access to the INBA and WNBF. I also did some research on Layne Norton (definately want to be bigger than him), and hes a professional in the NGA and the IFPA.

Stu what are you competing in? Is that a national or international federation?

NPC Team Universe is probably the biggest, most well known natural BB’ing competition. From there you’ve got Skip La Cour, Jeff Willet, Kai Greene, and Michael Lockett.

WNBF. It’s the pro natural bodybuilding federation. Desmond Miller competed in it before he went to the IFBB.

Cool. Ill have to check them both out. I always thought the NPC was just American.

They all have such shitty websites :stuck_out_tongue:

The NPC team Universe is the only NPC show that supposedly (I say supposedly because I’ve heard people have their suspicions) is tested. This one show aside, you have no real guarantee with any NPC shows.

As far as full blown ‘natural’ organizations, the WNBF (INBF is their amatuer affiliate) is probably the most well known, simply due to their pulishing Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness magazine (a pretty good mag that comes out 4x a year). Top guys there include Jim Cordvoa, Brian Whitacre, Shaun Clarida, and some real beasts. There is a strong association with Muscleteck and the magazine though, so you do get very obvious ‘articles’ touting their amazing new supplement breakthroughs.

One thing though that has gotten the WNBF a lot of bad press is their policy of not letting their pros compete in any other federation. I’ve known a good number of people to earn their pro card there (which is definitely a big accomplishment), compete for a bit, then try their hand at other organizations. They have also banned a few of their pros who made money by appearing in other magazines (Dave Gooden being the most notable, now has a column in Ironman, as well as having won his IFBB pro card!).

I’ve seen a lot of very impressive physiques as well in the NGA, IFPA and OCB (pick up Fitness and Physique magazine for contest coverage). Unlike the untested organizations, if you go the natty route, there are a lot of games in town. I’ve competed in the USBF, and plan on doing several of their shows in the next few months.

When I was first looking to try my hand, there were just a good number of choices in my area (NY/NJ/PA) with the USBF, and the caliber of physique (in the open classes especially) was very impressive.

I’m sure that whatever organization has shows that are travel-able for you would certainly be a good way to test the waters initially.

Yeah thats true, thanks stu, that gives me a better insight, just what i needed. Thanks again

I recall having to decide between an INBF show in Buffalo (5-6 hour drive), or NJ (2-3 hour drive). I didn’t think too many people would drive 5 hours to see me prance around in a speedo -lol. It’s funny because the winner of the Open Middleweights (I took 3rd) was a WNBF pro who I had seen in magazines!)
