I don’t know how many folks actually follow competitive bodybuilding, let alone natural contests, but the WNBF Worlds is actually a pretty big show, and it’s going to be in Manhattan on Sat Nov 14, so I figured I’d see if anyone was planning on attending. I know A few of my training buddies and I will be going, and I mentioned to ACTRain, but I’m not sure how much of a shlep it is from Philly.
Man I saw that one thread by old navy about that natty pro qualifier comp. Apparently anyone can show up and you only have to beat 4 people to win a pro card?
Lol, well, you have to realize that you never know who will show up to any given show. Even though I won a 1st in the Masters 35+, and a 1st in the Novice HW and Overall, I view my taking 3rd in the open middleweight as much more impressive when you consider the competition. The two guys that placed ahead of me were seasoned (pros from other federations) competitors. The guy who won the Light Heavy Open class (which I probably could have competed in instead of sucking down a few extra lbs to middleweight) was one of many competitors I beat in the other classes, so I have to wonder if I would have felt better winning an open class and getting a pro card, or getting 3rd against some serious competition? (or if I even would have been in the same quality condition had I come in heavier). Honestly I try not to play the ‘what if’ game, and just think about how many people would kill to take 3rd in an open class (and a very stacked class at that!) their first time out

So is your goal to turn pro? Seems like you have a very good shot, especially considering the way you pretty much dominated your first show.
Well, I’m certainly going to try my best. I mean, obviously you go into a show just hoping to do yourself proud, or even place better than the previous time, but it’s probably safe to say that in the back of most competitors’ minds they harbor little ambitions of seeing just how far they can go. Do I have the amazing genetics that guys like Cordova do? I can honestly say no, but, that realization isn’t going to make me just not try. Like you said, I did do surprisingly well for my first time out, so I am curious what I’ve got in the tank. Hopefully this off-season will allow me to make the gains I need, and then still be able to repeat the condition I brought last time (I hope, I hope, I hope!). It is inspiring to watch other competitors though. It was only about a year ago that I started going through Natty BBing mags with a pen and writing down different competitor’s heights and weights next to their pics so that I had some clue what I needed to measure up against.
