You would be surprised how a little bit of strain all night can add up in the morning. But again this is just a suggestion. Trying a foam pillow couldn’t hurt.
Honestly ditch the caffine 100% for a few weeks. None zip. ZERO! It’s worth a shot.
My Mom always used to get eally bad headaches and migraines. She cut out everything in her diet but the abssolute basics, and then started to add foods back in to find out what the causes were.
What she found out was the corn would give her headaches and that certain food colourings would cause most of her migraines. The other thing she ended up cutting out was cheese. She hasn’t had a bad headach or migraine since.
I just reread your original post. If the migraines are tied to your hormone cycle and only occur during your period have you thought of skipping your periods for a while? You can take BC pills, skip the placebos, and start the next course and stop having periods altogether. I’ve talked to a couple doctor friends of mine about this for other reasons (the only cycle I have is an old Univega) and they didn’t see a problem.
Remember that cutting out caffeine completely will probably bring on a headache–a bad one–for a day or two. Your body is used to it, and sudden withdrawal will have radical consequences.
Everybody seems intent on my dumping caffeine. All right, I’ll give it a try. I won’t go cold turkey, though. I’ll cut down gradually.
TShaw: I did go cold turkey with the coffee once many years before the migraines ever started and I had a headache everyday for about a month. If I cut out coffee all at once, I’m sure I’ll get an Armageddon headache. That’s when the headache is so bad it feels as if the final battle between good and evil is going on inside my head.
AC: I’m not sure what you mean by a foam pillow that keeps its shape. The pillow I’m sleeping on now is hard and keeps its shape.
SteelyEyes: I was on the pill when these headaches started. I’ll think about discussing your suggestion with my doctor next time I see him. But, I’m not sure how healthy it is to interfere with nature to the extent I stop having my periods, before menopause hits that is. Maybe menopause is the only thing that will put an end to these headaches.
To all the migraine sufferers (or any others who suffer from some kind of chronic pain syndrome) who are posting here or reading this thread: What’s just as bad as the pain and debilitation is the isolation I feel when I have one of these headaches. Sometimes I feel as if I’m not part of the human race. For example, when a well-meaning friend or family member tells me to take a Tylenol and lie down for half an hour, I know I’m all alone with this thing. I’m sure most, if not all of you, have experienced this feeling too.
Mud Dog: I’m glad your mother has put an end to her headaches.
ZEB: I feel your wife’s pain. Unfortunately, debilitating headaches put a damper on training.
It’s a pillow that’s shaped for the curvature of your neck. It’s soft foam not down or whatever is in the other pillows.
Completely eliminating caffine cold turkey will probably give you a headache. Thats why I said do it for several weeks so that you know if you still getting headaches it’s not from withdrawl. Although that will be an extremely shitty month or so.
I hate the pain because it makes me want to do nothing…no progress is made. Plus it fucking hurts!
Friend of mine actually had brain surgery to correct his migraines. His were totally ruining his life, so it was that or have no life at all. It was a over a year ago and he has been migraine free since (lucky duck).
This is unconventional, but try having a contrast shower. Three cycles of 2 min hot, 1 min cold.
A person on the CharlieFrancis forums said it worked for him and Charlie said ‘Headaches are often caused by restricted blood flow out of the head. Outflow occurs closer to the surface, where blood flow can be restricted by tight muscles. Therapy which promotes circulation and muscle relaxation will definitely help.’
