Dude… there is way more than a trillion atoms in the universe…
He means 1x10^trillion.

However, he’s still wrong. The atomic mass of the earth is somewhere around 1.33x10^50. The earth is a small ass planet compared to some others.
Imagine billions of planets, suns, moons hell even dark matter has atomic mass.

The universe contains WAY more than a trillion atoms dude.

Are you misunderstanding what i’m saying? I know there are waaay more than a trillion atoms in the universe. I said there are way less than 1(followed by a trillion zeros) atoms in the universe. 2 VERY different numbers. This is getting pretty off topic but i hope you get what i’m saying

Secondly, 1 out of 1(followed by a trillion zeros) of life being formed on a planet would mean that we would most likely be the only life forms out millions of universes lol. What i was saying is that because we only know of our own existence, maybe the odds of life being formed are .000000001 per universe. We just don’t know the odds having only ourselves as an example.

Maybe, but there is no reasonable rationale you could give to explain why you would lean towards the odds being that small. Like I said, the most important mission is Europa, if we find life there, then surely you would adjust that number you are leaning on.

Sorry if i was being confusing, but i’m not leaning towards the odds being that small, just saying because we know of only our existence we can’t come up with a logical probability of there being life elsewhere. We would need to find a life outside of our planet to come up with any kind of odds, unless we could somehow scientifically determine the odds of life randomly forming on a suitable planet, which we definitely can’t do now.

Oh and if we find life on Europa, i will then throw around odds like everyone else is doing now, but until then, like i said, i am not gravitating towards ANY odds. It could be 1 in 10 planets or 1 in 1(followed by a trillion zeros) lol

I’d venture to say that the odds of an universe harboring life, is 1 out of 1, at least that’s what experience tells us…
Let me try to explain what i was saying a little bit better. I think this might make some more sense. I’m not very good at expressing my thoughts coherently but i’ll give it a try lol

Lets say we have a quarter that we flipped 1 time and it landed on heads. We don’t have to flip it any more times to know that eventually, it would land on heads again after not too many attempts. Now lets say we have an imaginary coin and we are not told how many sides it has. It could have anywhere from 2 to as infinitely high of a number as you can think of. We then flip that coin 1 time and it lands on “blah”. We cannot establish the odds of the coin landing on “blah” again because we have no clue as to how many sides the coin has.

With the quarter we know the odds and can predict whether or not heads will land again and how often. With the imaginary coin, we don’t know if “blah” or “life being formed” will ever land again because we have only “flipped the coin once” or “confirmed the existence/nonexistence of life on 1 planet.”

Does anyone understand what im saying here or is what im stating a complete incoherent and incorrect mess? That’s entirely possible. I don’t know the odds for that though… lol

Instead of coin, how about we use a polyhedral with infinite sides. But yeah, I understand what you’re saying.
