Nas' New Album

Soljia Boi killed hip-hop, raped and desecrated the body, burned it, and than took a shit in its ashes.

I’m like NaS. I got his new LP pre-ordered. Already downloaded the leaked album and it is DOOOOOPE. Easily his best album since Illmatic.

The most rediculous thing is that last year when my university got going again, we’d be prowling the frat streets for some places to go. Everywhere we went there would be 50 people synchronized dancing to Soulja Boy. That’s when I think I died the most inside, out of any other event.

You guys should check out Nas’ last mixtape “Nigger Mix Tape” it is ridiculous!

Jay-Z is lacking when it comes to topics and concept rhymes. Does he have the ability to rap an entire song BACKWARDS, like Nas did in Rewind? That was lyrically superior to anything Jay-Z has ever done. I liked Jay much better when he wasn’t relying on the beats to carry him through the song. I think he is on cruise control now, nothing of his has impressed me since the Black album. Don’t get me wrong I believe he is up there as far as lyrics are concerned but he takes a seat behind Lupe and Lupe takes a seat behind Nas.

A Nas album will give you great stories, concepts, and inspirational lyrics:

“Afraid, not of you cowards, but of my own strength!”

its nowhere near as rediculous as going and seeing 50 people trying to beatbox and freestlye about their ak47’s, kilos of coke and mad hoes. theres nothing wrong with having some innocent fun. i never thought id see the day when people were so passionately upset about other people having a good time. talk about fun nazis.

As much as I dislike “Crank Dat”, and can’t stand Soulja Boi as an artist, I remember that he’s just a kid. We all do stupid things as kids.

Besides, all he really did was make a hip hop version of “Macarena” complete with it’s own dance moves.

I like Jay-Z, but he can’t touch Nas. Ether did blow away those away, and after Nas put it out Jay-Z had no retort. Illmatic is definitely his best album, but to those who think everything after is subpar, go listen to it was written. Track 4 [I can’t remember the name right now] is one of the dopest songs of all time, in any genre. Nas is the best commercial rapper right now, but I can’t call him the goat. He’s top 3 for sure, but not THE one.

Soulja boy is following a trend of shitty rappers making millions off of shitty rhymes and dope beats. That has been happening for at least the past 5 years. You can’t pin the downfall of hip-hop on a 17yr old kid, but he certainly isn’t helping.

You’re thinking about “I Gave You Power”, if you like that listen to “Stray Bullet” by Organized Konfusion.

Along with “Illmatic”, “It Was Written” is the only Nas album that had good beats throughout the record.

As this is music we’re talking about the beats are just as important as the lyrics and there are only 2 tracks (“Untitled” & “Fried Chicken”) on this latest album that have beats that catch my attention, that’s just not good enough for someone of Nas’s level. There are other songs which are still worth listening to but only because of Nas, otherwise they would just be skipable album “filler”.

Overall the album is decent, but decent isn’t good enough IMO.

im agreeing with livefromthe781, what do people want a kid rapping about? how gangsta he is? how much coke he sells? the problems of the world? no i dont think there could be anything worse than a 16 yr old with no life experience telling me whats wrong with the world, also who didnt have fun watching drunk girls with heels on trying to do the dance?

The problem is that what is labeled as hip-hop by today’s “standards” is a fragile shell of itself. Hip-Hop has adapted at its peak…its de-evolving because of its adaption.

Also, for verification…what was the “90’s style” of hip-hop?? Considering the broad spectrum of hip-hop…rap. And if Nas was dead…why are you the only one “pointing” it out. Hip-hop is not “dead”…Nas is not “dead”…people’s understanding of rhyme/lyrics is “dead.”

First of all…where in the hell are you going…and WHO is doing that??

Second…those people will still somehow get a record deal(probably the biggest issue with hip-hop “dying”).

Third…nothing is wrong with “Crank Dat”…its a dance song. The only thing wrong is that he made a complete album…lol. As you all point out…Soulja Boy is young…but what will he be in 3-5yrs??

The fact that he is young just puts a bad taste in people’s mouths about the FUTURE of hip-hop…its lacking badly…and its money focused business for most:

“…they told me I should come down cousin, but I flatly refuse I ain’t dumb down nothing!” (a young artist more deserving of being discussed in thread about Nas)

youre too caught up on some precise definition of hip-hop. hip-hop isnt a one trick pony theres all kinds of different styles and flavors of it. nas is more of the backpacker/storyteller and i think its very arrogant and wrong of him to basically imply that his style of hip-hop is the ONLY style because HIS style IS DEAD there all of hip-hop is dead. backpacking is dead, storytelling is dead. its another little sub-genre’s time to shine.

the thing that kills me is half these so-called greats of hip-hop would always preach some shit about world peace (including nas) and now that happy music about dancing and having nice sneakers and clothes is taking over the airwaves he wants to get all mad about it. are you fucking kidding me? Nas is a damn party pooper thats all. hes not having fun doing the dances or just having an all around fun time with the new carefree music so he wants to bring everyone else down. theres enough fucked up shit going on in the world so maybe its a good thing that instead of hearing about it 24/7 we get a break from it and just have a good time.

Dude, it’s not an issue of having fun. It’s an issue of terrible fucking music that people soak up and actually enjoy listening to. I don’t tell people how to live their lives, but I do reserve the right to give the opinion of what’s a god-awful song and what isn’t. Crank dat is, and so is Yah yah. The mere fact that people can get a (very obnoxious) dance out of a song that has the production values and beat of a recording system set up in some guy’s house who’s on welfare just baffles me. I could have recorded a song with my sphincter that sounded better.

then do it, this kid did it, he recorded it in his house put it up on his myspace and made a bunch of money in the process. your sounding like a whiny bitch, if you reckon you can do better, then do it don’t sit their and bitch about it. why does every rap thread need to turn into this soulja boy vs hip hop thread…there obviously is a market for this kind of music and its basic supply and demand.

never been a big nas fan, he is bordering on racially obsessed

Haha, right. I can’t really hate on him too much, he does what makes money.

@ Belligerent - For sure. He’s a great MC, but he does tend to dwell on that discussion a bit frequently.

I’m not trying to say its the greatest song ever either dude its alright, its fun to do the shit when youre drunk and just goof around. it serves a purpose though, it has an appropriate time and place, i just dont see anything that nas has done recently having a time or place in music right now.

Naming your CD “Nigger” wow, what a weak publicity stunt/way to stir up more racial shit. just go away nas.

That’s not my definition of fun. Doing a gay half assed dance? No thanks.

Go away Nas? LOL. You just said Souljah Boy apparently has his place in Hip-hop, why doesn’t Nas?

Nas = Gangsta rap
Souljah Boy = Wannabe

“…cite Soulja Boy as artistically typical of contemporary rap trends such as writing for the lucrative ringtone market, and the ascendence of “Southern hip hop”, emphasizing catchy, mindless music that discards rap’s traditional emphasis on message.”

and: "Soulja Boy identifies his goal as making upbeat, party-themed music that avoids the negative, violent image that he sees in most hip-hop. Despite this, his music has been banned from some school dances for sexual, pro-violence content or innuendo and, ironically, many of his recent recordings feature violent content and sexual innuendo. In the original YouTube video for “Shootout”, Way demonstrates his dance while holding a handgun in each hand and pretending to shoot into the audience.

The guy is a fucking retard if he doesn’t know what his own songs are about.
