I hate this guy more than anyone in hip hop. He’s not hip hop. He’s not even rap. His tone sucks. His lyrics are weak at best. He’s been caught numerous times using ghostwriters. The beat’s can’t even be called music, there’s no melody in this shit anymore. He and most mc’s now don’t even know what flow is? When it comes to flow, does anyone remember Freestyle Fellowship’s - Inner City Griots? (see i’m doing it now!)
And what the fuck is auto tuning doing in hip hop? Seriously? Auto tune! Can no one else hear it in these ghey ass songs and kanye’s weak attempt at singing? Could you imagine what would of happened to Krs One or Big Daddy Kane if he released an album that had auto tuned lyrics?
I really just don’t get it. I guess this is the dissapointment parents feel when their kids grow up and become yoga teachers. I hear this sludge and just want to cry…

The hate in this thread is sickening. Dorrance, all those artist you listed, while lyrically skilled, are boring as hell. Further more, you’re young, how much Wayne have you heard? Carter III? Dude’s been making music for the better part of ten years now.
I’ve lost count how many times this has happened - Someone makes a post about a current rapper they like, then someone says they suck, then says they should listen to REAL rap like Sage Francis or some shit.
If you think Weezy can’t rap, you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about. Sure, he screws around on a lot of songs and lately he’s been doing way too many drugs, but when he’s on he’s one of the best in the game.
Does much need to be said? It’s catchy, it’s got flavor. Lil Wayne takes so much heat, but anyone that wants their record to sell damn sure has Lil Wayne on one of the tracks. I don’t need a life story to enjoy music and I don’t need a meaningful rap song when I listen to one.

I don’t feel that Lil Wayne is real hip hop either. Im not a fan of his work at all… His punch lines are weak, his delivery is weak and his flow is a imitation of Jay-z’s. Can you really put him in the same category as Jay-Z, Biggie, Eminem, Nas, and Lupe (for example)? Flow wise, lyrical talent ect… He can’t hold his own against the above.
I’m not gonna hate on Wayne because he is pretty talented. I follow rap pretty closely and I will agree that I can’t take this fake voice shit. I have never liked T-Pain doing it and I didn’t mind it when Kanye did it at first, but it is getting ridiculous now. Go back to actually rapping about real shit. My favorite rapper by far is Tech N9ne. He’s the biggest underground rapper of all time and his speed, flow, and lines can’t be touched.
Plus, he actually has deep shit too. I can’t wait for Eminem and Dr. Dre to come out with their new stuff as well. Anyways, Wayne is doing making the music that is popular right now and he’s making a ton of money. I might be doing the same thing.

Personally I like good lyrics, good content and good story telling. I listen to pop as well as many underground lyricist. The majority of underground used to always be garbage, but now pop is pretty garbage too. However, I don’t think lil wayne is the worst rapper, just not the best. I’ve listened to him pretty much his whole career and can say he’s definitely better then most out there today, and has better punchlines. The only 3 problems he has is
- Most prolific since 2pac. I mean this in the strict definition as he has the most rhymes out there, He’ll drop 4 solo mixtapes over other peoples track in a month. You can’t possibly put out your best work when your dropping everything, not editing shit. He has plenty of good lyrics COMPLETELY drowned out by sheer garbage.
2)He’s pop, that immediately puts him out of the realm of all those “hardcore” fans that are out there really shooting people, while playing mobsters on myspace.

This tends to be the problem with rap as a whole nowadays. People used to take 2 or 3 years to drop an album. Now if somebody says “my name is big nate I lift weights” his whole crew talking about “yo put that on youtube son”
That being said I think 85% of his album will be garbage.

Seems like everyone is hating because hes popular. Every time a ‘good-hip-hop’ thread comes up, everyone wants to be the first to spit off some underground artist. They do this like they weren’t lip singing Lil’ Wayne on the way home from the gym yesterday.
Now, I’m not saying anything is wrong with any of the aforementioned artist. I basically only listen to hip hop, can quote most any lyrics, and understand whats good in each respective aspect.
Don’t just hate because he’s rich, especially if you haven’t taken the time to listen to every song. I don’t mean have it playing while doing homework, I’m talking actually paying attention, even having to rewind it when a rapper blows your mind.

No one is making you like his music, there is plenty of genres I choose not to listen to. But, I don’t get my estrogen levels up when I hear those types of music either.
Again, don’t hate because he made it. Give him ‘props,’ don’t listen to him, and move on.

Have you even heard T-pains albums? Yes, he uses the auto-tune quite a bit, but that’s what’s popular right now in music.
T-Pain has a great voice though, doesn’t need the auto-tune at all.

Yeah and Im not into that shit, a melodramatic story with a crap beat. I like music that can pound some serious base, pump me up, and has a sick ass beat with catchy lyrics. I don’t need the repeated story of who shot me or I shot you, or my moms was poor and now she livin’ the good life. It’s all so cliche. You don’t here other rappers taking the leaps like Wayne keeping people entertained and that’s why the rappers you just listed are no names compared to Wayne. Don not “hate” on people who like Lil Wayne because he obviously has something going for him, actually a lot going for him.
Comparing him to Jay-Z and Big is not practical. It’s too different styles or Rap/Hip-Hop and each has perfected their style. I also find it commendable that most of Weezies work is not written just spitten. Too be honest I like him better than any rapper ever. Young moula baby all day!
I respect Lil Wayne for getting where he is now…but his best days were wrapped up after the first Carter album. Its amazing the amount of people who didn’t have a clue who he was until The Carter. I’d take “Hot Boy” era Lil Wayne over the current.
On a side note: Turk(Hot Boys) had a better flow than Wayne…but smoking crack and shooting at cops doesn’t carry over into a successful solo career.
