I remember reading a study one time that suggested giving your children a powerful and uncommon name may be linked with setting them up to be high achievers.
I say go for it, If I ever have a son, I’m going to name him something badass too.
Funny, I remember reading somewhere it sets them up to be beaten for their lunch money. And somewhere else that it’s actually correlated with them growing up to be criminals. Although it could be that a lot of poor people read the same thing you did and named their kids creatively, and since poor people are more likely to commit crimes than well-to-do people, creative names are now correlated with criminality.
Dude, your UPBRINGING has more to do with whether you are a criminal than your name. I hate it when people do studies to show some correlation and then they get used as if this means causation.
If your kid robs a bank, it isn’t because his name is Snake.
I read the same thing as Hertz somewhere. A ridiculous name just sets the kid up to be beat up at school. Take the five grand. If the kid doesn’t like the name, he can change it himself using his own money.

a greek guy i know used all greek gods names for his kids middle names. it was pretty cool i thought.
You know what’s funny? In real life, 90% of the people I talk to say take the money. Over the internet, 90% of the people seem to be saying the opposite.

I used to run with a straight criminal named “kevin”
I don’t think that was his real name though.
Dude left one day, and never came back. I ended up with like $1,200 worth of jeans.

There is a very strong correlation between name and success. There is no correlation when you adjust for upbringing. It turns out a girl named Shakuitha (sp?) from a rich family, good school, and wealthy neighborhood is as likely to succeed as a girl named Cindy in the same situation. Well to do people in solid families tend to name differently than poor broken families. The name is a result of conditions that also impact success. There is no causation between name and success.
Is it just me, or am I the only one that thinks it’s kinda out of bounds to tell parents how to name their kids, much less, BRIBE them… Just reading that kinda got my hackles up.
On another note, I actually KNOW a guy who’s middle name is Winner. You’d think he’d be a douchebag, but he’s actually a really cool guy, very successful, and gets laid like a rockstar.

Well, there is “cocky” and there is “convinced”.
I am the latter.
Wow, that’s a sweet fucking line. I’m stealing that one. Before now I’ve just admitted I was cocky but have always backed it up.
