What SteelyD said, because you’ll be hearing it for a long, long time.

I never named any of my children until after they were born and I looked them in the eye. Sometimes the name you picked just doesn’t fit. A child with an ill-fitting name will grow up and shoot you in your sleep.
X3

I tried to sucker my wife into using my grandfathers name…Norbert lol. I had no intention of going with that name but it was funny to watch her squirm for a bit.

Take the quid and give him a nickname ;)
My nephew’s name is “Raymond Herbert [goofy fucking last name] III”…

Everyone has called him “Buddy” from day one…

My future son, Bullet Xavier Knight-Rider Cage, will kick your son’s ass anyday.

Hey whats wrong with two middle names. I am from east Tennesse and its like hillbilly law to have three names. Just ask my brother Billy Joe Jim Bob.

Or Urkel.

lol, Even the girls?

I remember reading a study one time that suggested giving your children a powerful and uncommon name may be linked with setting them up to be high achievers.

I say go for it, If I ever have a son, I’m going to name him something badass too.

I have no real valuable input here, I am just curious: Why does he want to have your child named after YOUR father?

Oh man, I believe we have a winner for most kick ass name. I’m suggesting this to his mother.

I dare anyone to top this badass name.

Good question…but I would imagine it has to do with him trying to make sure his father’s name lives on in some way…seeing as he was raising the man’s son.

Yea, that’s what I was thinking…

He’s really big into tradition and all that crap. He thinks all sons should be named after the father or the grandfather.

But I already have a couple cousins named Stephen (with the same last name).

My family is huge, my grandmother had 10 kids and they’ve all got at least 3 kids.

Sorry, I’m rambling.

I use the term step dad loosely, he’s really my Mom’s husband - they didn’t meet until I was 18 or so.

I may have to spell “knightrider” differently or else he’ll get sued before he can walk.

…which now that I think of it may be the perfect welcoming into this fucked up world.

Oh, fuck that. Identity > Tradition

My parents always called me by my middle name, which is popular for people my age and it sucks when there are 5 other people with the same name (this is actually the case at work). My friends and co-workers all refer to me by my last name or just “D”.

The Bob part has got to go.

Stephen Lord Humoungous LankyMOFO…your welcome and that ones for free.

I bet it’s less that 5k to do a legal name change. Name him after your dad, take the 5k and then change it to what you wanted.

Isn’t it kinda odd your step dad wants your kid named after your father?

Choose a name you like. Who knows what he will end up calling himself. My friend’s son decided at 13yrs old that he wanted to be called Roach Meridian. It just rolls off the tongue.

I had two great-uncles, one named John, one Edward, but everyone called them Whip and Dammit because as kids their dad was always yellling, “I am gonna Whip you boy.” and “Dammit boy, what did you do.” Texans…

Funny, I remember reading somewhere it sets them up to be beaten for their lunch money. And somewhere else (Odd names turn boys bad | Stuff.co.nz) that it’s actually correlated with them growing up to be criminals. Although it could be that a lot of poor people read the same thing you did and named their kids creatively, and since poor people are more likely to commit crimes than well-to-do people, creative names are now correlated with criminality.

EDIT: dammit, how do I make a bit of text into a hyperlink on this forum?

I’ll draw you a free avatar if you name him Mark Christopher.
