Heres another good read on TBT vs Splits vs upper/lower.

Training Frequency for Mass Gains

In recent years, bodybuilding/hypertrophy training has divided itself into a number of different ???¢??camps???¢?? with quite a bit of argument and debate going on over what the optimal training frequency for muscle growth is.

In this article…

You know how you can find ANYTHING online if you look for it? I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but I did a bit of a search for “Lyle + McDonald + Shirtless” to see how well he practices what he preaches. result = 0 relevant hits.

So, from the single picture I have seen of him, I have to admit the only reason I’D care what he recommends, is to figure out what the opposite of what he’s teaching is, and do that.

Why is everyone of his sheep obsessed with this place? Wasn’t it Defranco that said: “once people start shit talking you, you know you are doing something right.”
Yeah, but you know DeFranco doesn’t train people to be strong, he only specializes to get his clients EXACTLY what they want, (the best 40 time, vertical, and benching 225 for reps) and Million-dollar NFL contracts. He should be having them all doin’ Stronglifts or Crossfit or some other superior program from the '50s.

(Who’s gonna miss the sarcasm?)

Can’t we lobby to get these trolls kicked out of this section or something?

Seriously.

I doubt this shit would be tolerated in any other forum. Imagine if some bodybuilder constantly hung out in the combat sports forum telling everyone they should be doing a 6-way split, and not bothering to train for performance, and all fighters are just overcompensating idiots and anyone who says you have to train for fighting to be good at it must be a moron regardless of whether or not they are Bruce Lee back from the dead.

Wow, Im surprised this debate is still breathing…even if it is on life-support. Why hasnt it gotten to the “both sides have merit, lets move on with our lives” point yet?
lol I pretty much said this from the start. Do both, track progress, see what works better for you. The OP is gaining better doing what hes doing now, I’m making better progress with what I’m doing now… The problem is when a thread like this gets 5000+ views or whatever, theres a percentage of guys who will read this who are new to all this stuff or not getting anywhere with what they are doing now. And when you have certain people saying bodyparrt splits are the only way you will ever get significantly bigger, when myself and others are living proof its not optimal for us whatsoever…is that really what people like myself need to hear?

The truth is what works for genetically gifted Frank possibly wont do much at all for little scrawny Timmy and what Bill over there is doing while injecting testosterone into his thigh quite possibly won’t do Jack shit for either of them.

I’m done arguing this stuff, I’m going to get back to growing now.

Apparently “living proof” means anonymous behind a computer screen.

Guys, if you are going to request photos, first you need to provide photos. CURRENT photos.

You don’t do the exact same workout every time you are in the gym, in order to do a whole-body training routine. So there’s no reason that curls wouldn’t be included, on some days. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
You’re a total fucking dumbass. That or you’re a troll, I havn’t figured out which one. If you knew anything about bodybuilding you would know that knee bends are what the old timers called them. It’s relative when talking about old school training.

Second of all, I gained almost 70 pounds in 2 years with full body training. I have pictures posted in another thread proving it so why don’t you post some pictures of yourself you piece of shit. I got a reality check when the big guys here pointed out my lagging shoulders, calves, and biceps.

Also, if you comprehended my posts (which it’s clear you couldn’t) you would realize that I said nothing about doing the same routine 3x per week. Of course squatting would be done often as that is usually the foundation of a full body program. My point was that if you do some squats, bench, rows, and chinups in the same day, you’re not going to be able to put 100% effort into your curls.

Lastly, go fuck yourself. Dipshit.

If your goal is to look like a bodybuilder with 20" arms then do a split routine. It allows you to put the effort needed into individual bodyparts. If your goal is to look like a powerlifter with a 600 lb deadlift, then look into full body training. Let the bodybuilders take advantage of their split routine and the strength athletes take advantage of their TBT. Different strokes for different folks is what it comes down to. Of course many will disagree with this statement since split routines are the be all end all of training.

^ doesn’t realize he’s posting in the BODYBUILDNG forum.

STOP THINKING IN CATEGORIES. That’s the only thing I’ve been trying to say this entire thread. Stop thinking in absolutes. The fact that you still think in terms of “splits” and “TBT” only for certain groups shows that you don’t know what you’re talking about. Like, I’m trying to find the words to convey this to you. You’re in a Catch-22, it’s like think of it this way. You’re playing a game, and you’re winning, but you don’t know that you’re playing the game. As soon as you realize that you are playing the game and that you are winning, you lose. Just by saying that statement that bodybuilders should do “split training” and powerlifters should do “TBT” shows your ignorance.

All methods of training are training splits, TBT and 6+ bodypart splits are just opposite ends of a spectrum. TBT, if tailored correctly, can do things splits are better suited for, Splits, if tailored correctly, can do the things TBT does well.

I personally think we need a stickied thread listing the “forum fools” and trolls as they come along on the BB forum. That would reduce the already negligible leverage some of these fuckwits have on the forum.

Kind of on the lines of “best of T-Nation” and it would help establish the status quo more thoroughly.

Obviously not for people who go against the status quo and HAVE results to back themselves up.

Whadda think?

I do. Thats the pussiest shit ever.

For future reference, when I use the term “we” I do not mean you.

You are nothing but a troll.

I didn’t read the remainder of your post, because the above quoted statement proves you are a weak simpleton.

I do a split on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays and TBT on Tues, Thurs and Saturday. I’ve been doing this for 10 years. When I need to shake things up I do my split on Tues, Thurs and Saturday and TBT on Mon, Wed and Friday.

I do cardio on Sundays. Mainly hard-core recombinant bike work.

I wasnt gonna come back to this thread, but I just have to say (then I really am done) that you are calling other people ‘trolls’ here when all you have done throughout this entire thread is throw around lame little insults, do you realise how pathetic you actually make yourself look? Do you even actually lift weights? Because you sure as hell dont sound like it.

Right under the “Best of T-Nation” sticky we have “the Worst of T-Nation”

So far, we have “Nominal Prospect” (of whom we ALSO have pictures, plenty of them) and “dankid” (of whom we have stats and every other bit of nonsense he spews on here), Steel_12 (in case he returns to the site), Zeus_Nathan…and from THIS thread, we have K2000 and Rival6.

Obviously this has NOTHING to do with advocating TBT for BBing purposes, mind you…Push, Marquos, I believe RJ and many others have used it for lengthy periods of time successfully.

But someone who makes statements like “I advocate using the CNS for lifting” like our accomplished “Rival6” makes the cut.

Why don’t you set the ball rolling. This is the best way to finish cleaning up the forum. STAT.

You sure as hell don’t LOOK like it.

Oh, wait, you haven’t posted pictures of your amazing progress yet…you know, the progress that causes you to gain 5+" on your arms yet come to the conclusion that this was not good so now you switched to TBT…which you claim produces even more progress yet haven’t explained how that is possible if you gained 5+" on your arms using a split routine.

Anyone who thinks you are a troll has EVERY REASON IN THE WORLD TO THINK THAT BECAUSE YOU HAVE SHOWN NO PROOF OF YOUR AMAZING DUMBASS RESULTS.
toots27mkc wrote:
Personally, I’ve had success on both.

I’ve had more rapid strength and size gains on a split. It allows one to train more frequently because each session is not as taxing on the central nervous system and it gives each muscle more recovery time from session to session. A split allows more overall work on each muscle week to week. You can still train them at a high intensity without exhausting the CNS as much. You also get more anabolic stimuli throughout the week. If you eat and rest properly through the weeks, you will get more out of a split.

However, I believe that if you have limited time that TBT is the way to go(Waterbury style)

full-body workouts are more time efficient, but they cannot be used as frequently because they require your CNS and muscles to recover more in a given amount of time
