Aw, man! Low blow… especially after your kind words previously (thanks, DJHT).

And HolyMac, you were one of many who had requested an avatar after Prof X’s avatar was revealed. I didn’t single you out for personal reasons… although I should until you set off the Lunk Alarm. lol

I know it seems like I played favorites, but it’s really my workload that dictates my availability. I’d seriously love making avatars for everyone that requested it, but right now it’s not doable.

I’m new, and therefore it is unlikely that anyone cares, but I’ll throw my 2 cents in anyway.

The reason I chose to use a photo of myself for my avatar is threefold…

 1. To provide a little bit of extra motivation for myself.
 2. To show the rest of T-Nation my progress (When I make some).
 3. To illustrate my level of training…nobody has to guess what my fitness level is.

And more to the point of the original post, I do find that I pay more attention to and have more confidence in the advice of those who present good physiques in their Avatars…But only if the photo is clearly of the poster himself/herself.

I also tend to venture into the hubs of posters with good physiques, to check out the photos, training logs, etc, etc.

Well since we are the only ones putting things in this thread, how is the art world? Do you really have to set parameters to work out of the house?
On Thursday’s I am out of the office doing sales, and will work out of the house. The wife is always trying to get me to do Honey do’s, drives me insane.

I have a separate studio in the basement where I do my work. The next room over is my gym. Ever since I gave up the rented office space 11 years ago and moved it into my home, I’ve been much more productive.

The art world is reflecting the rest of the work world in general, but I’ve managed to stay very busy. I have an agent who gets me quite a bit of work, and one of my own clients (Musclemag) keeps me the most consistently busy.

Thanks!

I wasnt bullshitting you about admiring artistic people. I just know how life with kids and wife’s are, integrating the working world is always difficult. Working at home the only way to do it is like you have, I would love to set my own hours. I have to get up at 4:30 to lift and be at work by 7 would love to move that a little later and work out of the house.

DAMMIT!! You just blew my brain! I was looking at a MuscleMag a few months ago and saw he drawings that went with the news articles and knew I liked the clear, colorful style and just now that you said you did work for them I realize that it was you!
That’s neat.

Thanks D.
You have so much more to be responsible for than I do with my one child (he’s just turned 18). My wife and I are on autopilot in our relationship and parental duties (it’s like 50/50) and the whole thing runs pretty smoothly. I imagine you and your lovely wife do the same… except 5x more! Working out of the house it seems should be something every employer should offer employees where it fits. Another aspect of it that I like is that I can live anywhere and still do what I do with the same clients.
I hope you can eventually do it.

Thanks Nards! Yes, I do 20 small illustrations every month for a column called “Muscle Bites”. I also do a full 2-page spread illustration with 4-5 corresponding illustrations every other month or so. Robert Kennedy has been very good to me.

I might do a thread where I display the feature art I did for MuscleMag… just so you can see what you may have seen previously, and not know it was me.

lol

Unrelated: ID, theres a guy at my gym (Temple Gym, Birmingham) with a custom cartoon pic on his locker which looks very much like your style. Your work by any chance?
I wouldn’t know unless you give me a description of the cartoon.
He’s a big Asian guy with a goatee - I think in the cartoon he’s wearing a vest. I think his name’s Jimmy.

LOL, maybe he just cut it out of Musclemag and it’s an amazing coincidence that it looks like him!

IRON DWARF!

I went to my local English bookstore that usually carries MuscleMag to try and get an issue but they didn’t have any! I’d told my coworker that a guy I know on the internet (she then gives me a look) does the illustrations too.

So I did get another magazine about the legends of bodybuilding which led to a funny video:
