Deadlifts good great, in my gym people who deadlift are so rare the staff think we are part of a cult. Of course in my gym you can’t use chalk either…

i haven’t tried bringing my own chalk yet, and i havent seen any signs. no one bothers me when i let the weights slam, though, so i’m willing to push my limits with chalk.
MIM- you definitely reminded me of “Pretty Woman” when u said that!
You may not be taking applications, but I suspect there would be a long line if you were.
It is always a pleasure to watch you deadlift. There was actually a girl in my gym yesterday doing stiff legged deadlifts with a light weight (probably 65#), with a horrendously rounded back. Had she been the least bit friendly, I might have said something. But her body english said “keep away”, so I did.
But, there was ANOTHER female in the weight room yesterday who was friendly and actually asked me a question. So I offered to spot her on the bench, and then made her put weight on the bar (she could do 15 good looking reps with the bar and I was like, c’mon lets put some weight on here). Obviously clueless despite taking the “women on weights” jack-ass course that my gym offers, I pointed her to the “New Rules of Lifting for Women” book, which was my very first reading on the subject.
Paying it forward.
Nice, Kimba!
CBear, a one-arm pullup is seriously badass. I’d like to do one arm pushups and haven’t accomplished that yet. Sorry about your man. Kimba’s right, when you are ready the line will be out the door. xo
aww, thank you all for the well wishes and votes of confidence!
I’m just now getting around to posting my training from sunday… and this week is my deload week, so, YAY!
sunday afternoon Chris (gotta think of a nickname for this one.) put me through a therapy session to start working on my APT. definitely very awesome. not the maiming, bruising, sore afterwards kind that im used to. He told me that fascia, at the same thickness, is 6x stronger than steel. very cool. he also said that when you apply sudden, intense pressure to an area thats already fighting trauma (like a tight fascia plane), it will respond by tensing up even more, and by the time it releases, the surrounding soft tissue is bruised.
so all of this makes sense, but it was still weird to have a therapy session with light pressure and being taken through the full ROM. I kept bracing myself for it to hurt. silly Cbear!
The plan for late sunday afternoon was squat and bench. I asked him if it was ok to go ahead and squat after being adjusted like that, and he said ok, but remember that im gonna be a little weaker at first, bc everything has been realigned and is working differently than it used to.
so for my 5/3/1 squat and bench numbers, im almost disappointed.
bench went up to 135x5 and squat went to 155x5(x2). holeeeeyy shit. 155 felt like 305 for all i cared. tucking my hips for my bench was also very fucked up feeling when i went to drive thru my heels.
excuses? no. bad idea to expect PR’s on a day i had the biggest joints in my body, integral joints for both of the lifts i wanted to do, adjusted. yep.
went on to do 3x15 db swings. 40, 40, 50.
some weighted ab hyper extentions (25lb), and a core blitz like disa one: http://www.youtube.com/user/bigjim44#p/u/41/Xrh9RBki4Dw
but with 1 arm and a 20lb db, 10 reps each arm each direction, whole thing x2.
i was not only vomitous but seeing a white haze right before the last flip over during the corebliz sets.
I insisted that Chris walk next to me and be ready to catch me if I passed out. It’d be great to be a hardass in the gym and then not be able to make it to my car. I made it with no assistance, yay!
I was sad enough that I couldn’t see that youtube (it looks like a big white square to me) that I hit “quote” and cut and pasted the raw link.
That’s some crazy ass shit. Hurt me just to look at it.
What is your “APT”? Is that a disease or your degree? ![]()
Anterior pelvic tilt. I gots one too - comes from tight hip flexors from sitting a lot.
CBear - This Chris fella - what sort of therapist is he exactly? Cos it sounds like I could benefit from some of that. My physio’s quite good but he’s not really a sports physio (he didn’t even know what a kettlebell was until I told him).

honestly if i had to pick one name for the classification of what he does i couldnt do it. When he went through the list of certifications and whatnot that he has, and where he went to school (I remember the American Institute of Medicine… I think… unless theres an American Institute of Alternative Medicine… i dunno), I was still recovering from a set, and from the shock of “Yeah I sent my son to WestSide Barbell for football training…”
the short answer is, I have no idea. I figure whatever he says is correct, and I have no problem looking it up if I question it. He even has the books in which I would do so on his desk and coffee table.
yay deload week!
OHP- barx15, barx15, 55x15, 65x12, barx15
kroc rows- 40lbsx30 each side, 50lbsx25 each side
weighted walking pushups, 25lb plate (no chains at my gym. sad face)x2 sets, 7, 6.
delt complex
hanging leg raises with 25lb db, 2x8
30 min in hot tub and 20 min in sauna.
oh and i had some pretty awesome climbs today, too. theres a move called, “figure4” thats meant to be used when you dont have a place to put one of your hands and one of your feet. apparently, i did it pretty well all 3 times before hobbit turned the camera on. rawr.
I also had a climb that restricted the number of hand and foot holds i could use, which meant that to get to the top, i had to jump. not just a little, A LOT. reaching with only one hand. so, I got it, after the first 5 or 6 times i missed.
still trying to convince the hobbit to post video on youtube for me.
i need some physio like that…shoot… i have a massage therapist who knows her shit and puts me in a world of hurt (the good way) but i’ve neglected myself.
i wish i could see your core blitz…is Tnation fuckin w you again? the site is going crazy again today…gdamnt…and if only there was video of you not able to make it to your car…
“tonight on the 6 o’clock evening news…Cbear has lost her superhero cape and needs assistance walking to her car…” i can see it now…

ha! definitely rocked, the way that session happened. He threw a pair of his athletic pants in my lap and said, “Change, then get on the table. No arguing. Now.”
well shit. If you’re gonna twist my arm…
I think tnation is fucking with everyone tonight. I’ve seen several convos about not being able to see avatars or pics. hmmmm.
I didnt LOSE the cape, I took it off so I could squat. thats my story, an im sticking to it.
you lost your typing skills apparently. post the fucking video again…or wait until this damn site quits actin a fool…
you know the news never gets the story right…

I gave it a real effort tonight but not a chance! I want to do it now though. Cbear please do keep us up to date.

It could be my inflated self esteem, but I have this ridiculous feeling I could do one if I tried. I’m figuring a situation where I could get it on tape without the hobbit knowing. If I fail, I don’t want him to know about it.
There’s this mind game I play before a big lift… telling myself to “remember” how it felt the last time I did it… even if it’s a first try. Taking myself through the movement 1 nanosecond at a time, and picturing how it feels the whole way through.
then again, it’s not that difficult to believe i can talk myself into and out of almost anything.
If Chris is the new awesome workout partner, AND he is a kick-ass therapist too…well, please tell me he’s not married or girlfriended or anything. Lie if you must.
So here is a question…I want to do hanging leg raises. But, I am weak as a kitten on them, barely able to raise my knees up to my waist, much less my feet to the bar. Should I just start doing them, half-assed though they are, or is there some sort of progression I should know about?

Divorced, 3 boys, aged 17, 14, and 12. The 17 and 14 year old have been at the gym with us before, and have expressed their approval of their fathers friendship with me to him already. lol. with all the eloquence teenage boys have. I heard this from him, not them.
he’s 6’2"ish, around 215, around 10%. blue/grey eyes, brown hair speckeled with silver, cut short (used to be in the Navy). lives by himself, house is clean. gym in the garage (squat rack absent but plans are in the works). therapy/office setup in the spare room- table, heat pads, and something else, cant figure out what it is but i’ll ask next time.
none of that was a lie.
I bend my knees into my chest. I cant think of a good protocol to get you to be able to do them, as i dont remember a time when i couldnt. I wonder if a miniband assist would be appropriate, maybe some v-ups with a medicine ball. hmmm. keep me posted about how this goes for you.
tried a 1 arm pullup today. didnt happen. wonder if a day of climbing and a night of ohp has something to do with it, or if i was just full of myself for no reason.
both are highly likely.

Oh. My. God. I’m so enjoying this mental picture.
I’ve done v-ups with a stability ball, but a med ball is a great suggestion. Hmmm…band assist…if I wasn’t so beat I’d try and figure that out now.

looking pretty good. especially kids of age to be left alone. even though i’m sure they spend all his dough.

mah votes on B. =+P
He sounds nice; glad the kids are friendly too. (Man, I wish I had thought about going to the gym when I was 14!)
