I’ll quit pulling when my arms fall off.
I’ll quit running when my legs fall off.
I’ll only stop when I am dead or dying.
The only pain I am afraid of is failure but I will never know it because I will die first.
Death Before Dishonor.

106 Days Till Boot Camp
Morning PT
I worked out with a former Marine Scout Sniper so I did his workout.
Pullups 11 8 7 6 6 5 5
Dips 12 12 12 12 - I straightened my body and took the pressure off my chest so I didn’t feel any pain.
Preacher Curl Machine 85x10 115x10 135x10
Tricep Extensions 50x10 60x10 65x10
Hammer Curls 30x10 40x10 40x10
Nice slow 10 min mile
I’ll pass on a abbreviated quote from Corey Webster that was featured on Defranco’s Strong…“you’re gonna meet a lot of people that say they want to win, but not everybody is willing to work to win.”
On that note… carry on.
damn your pull ups are pretty damn good. Do you have any scheduled PFTs within the next 106 days? Overall Physical fitness is great but in order to score the highest your body can possibly do, schedule a PFT around the same time of day as your projected one. You will learn a lot about you respond to different rest patterns and time of day. You will still score high but I am talking about totally blowing everyone away.
On a side note a good buddy of mine is going to Marine OCS this summer as well. He is pretty pumped and busting his ass in the gym as well.

105 Days Till Boot Camp
Group PT
Side Straddle Hops Warm Up
4 Rounds of:
15 Ball Slams
10 Pullups
15 Kettlebell Swings
40 Crunches
Tonight I wore my 20lb weighted vest to add some difficulty so my pullups weren’t that crisp.

Thank You for the quote.

I actually have a IST (Initial Strength Test) on Saturday. This consists of max pullups, max crunches in two minutes, and a timed 1.5 mile run. I have been doing a lot of pullup volume but I’m not sure how it is affecting my max. The last time I maxed I got 14 and I want to get 17 on Sat. So well see. Once I get my run down then I’ll be doing pretty well on my PFT but you’re right I want to get to the point where I can crush that test.

My leg strength is going to shit pretty quick since I haven’t been squatting as much. My bench stalled tonight and my Rows were ok. I’m having trouble balancing all the running and weightlifting. My strength just isn’t there. I think in light of this I’m going to change a few things here soon.

Have you ever worked out prior to this training? And if so, how much?
Hey jahall
Yes I worked out and trained for Football, Track, Boxing, and Powerlifting prior to this.
I have experience in a lot of different training methods.
I’d say I have about 3 years training experience all together.
I wish I would have kept my conditioning up all along but I didn’t so here I am today trying to get back in shape.
I was just wondering because you have some pretty impressive lifts there and i was going to be jealous if you had just started working out haha.
And i’ve been trying to read most of your workouts because i’m interested in really being able to do some pull ups and dips FINALLY. I’ve never been very good at either and i’d like to finally be able to do some

My CO Major Banning counted my pullups today and lets just say he is very strict on them.
I did 17 but 3 were not counted. I’m not sore about this though because if the CO says so its right. This also allows me to adjust to the standards he set today.
Crunches 90
1.5 Mile Run 11:02
Disappointed in this. I should have pushed harder.
Overall I was disappointed with this IST. I should be doing better but I’m not. I’m going to smoke this test next month and try to max out the pullup and crunch portion.

Yeah man don’t be jealous.
I’ve had a lot of experience with weights.
Don’t worry though Alex is you stay consistent then you will well exceed anything I have done.
It’s all about hard work and consistency so just stick to it.
Being able to do pullups and dips is an awesome thing. A lot of people can move some serious weight but can do nothing with their own body weight. Believe me when I say a pullup builds more muscle than a lat pulldown does any day.
Get some Devil Dog! Wish I was young again so I could do it all over again.
hey kiddo just a couple of tips.
First off as a former army infantry Sgt. I was once in your shoes waiting to go to what i thought was going to be 13wks of hell. Luckily i trained hard and it turned out to be alot easier than I thought.
As was said earlier the running, pullups, pushups, and situps are important But Even more important is getting your body prepared for the road marching.
Get yourself a pair of boots, wool socks, and a ruck with about 35-40pds of gear in it and start marching. Start of doing 4 miles twice a week trying to keep a 15min mile pace. Every other week add 2 miles trying to keep the same pace. Getting your body used to the discomfort ofcarring the weight and your feet used to wearing boots is super important for an infantryman! Probably the most important thing!!! the most common injuries in basic are stress fractures in the feet and blisters on the feet! toughening up your feet before you go will set you ahead of the rest in basic!
Yeah, rucking definately deserves proper preparation. You don’t want to find out where your hotspots are in basic after your first ruck.
Forced Marches/Patrolling requires that you just disconnect yourself from the pain. It’s manageable misery. Make sure someone shows you how to jock up properly if you can to avoid ruck rubs from your LBE and ruck frame. They sneak up on you and sometimes you don’t really notice them until you go into the shower and the water hits your back and then the pain is going to be an attention getter.
speak the truth brother
You know deep down inside that every time a CO doesn’t count a pullup or whenever you miss your mark by 32 seconds that it makes you better, so why the hell are you disappointed? If it wasn’t for that CO you would have learned one less life lesson. If you would have made your time that would have been great but consistency is the main factor in greatness. It’s going to be hard at first but I guarantee you that if you just push yourself that one extra percent everyday like I said before, you won’t regret it. You’re progress will move from linear to exponential. It just takes time. and seein’ as how you have 100 days i guess you have all the time in the world that you would need.

Thanks guys for the advice on the humps.
Since I’m under a 100 days now I’m going to be running a lot more and adding in ruck marches.
I have some work boots and some thick wool socks that should work nicely. For my ruck I’m going to use a camping pack and throw a 45 in it.
Now when I hump is there any particular way I should do it or is it just walking as fast as I can?
Should I lean forward into the walk or what?
Thanks again for the advice.
amphibian If you especially have any advice on anything about the Marine Corps I’d really appreciate it.

I agree.
