My First Battle with a Protein Shake...

Inreased calories, better for bulking if you’re not worried about gaining a little fat.

I figured. I’m trying to lose weight at the moment. I’ll stick to water

I don’t know how large the scoops are since this sounds like a cheaper brand, but, as a rule I figure each normal scoop of whey (about 20-25 g of protein for most brands) needs at least 6 oz of water to suitably mix. Depending on brand I may use as much as 10 oz of water per scoop.

8 oz for 2 scoops (if they are of standard size) is too little.

Yeah, assuming it’s the normal sized scooper (like 3-4 big spoonfuls of powder, ish) it will mix just fine at about 6-8ozs per scoopie.

I like a whey/casein blend (23 g protein) that calls for 8 ounces of water on the label mixed into 4 with a blender bottle or a hand blender.

Cold water doesn’t mix as well as warmish water, but generally tastes better.

Stay away from soy.

Ok so yea…It was a little tough downing that protein drink. Its chocolate flavored and I put it in water. Bottle says put two scoops in 8oz of water and it took me about 10 minutes to actually get the stuff to dissolve.

So…I could only really finish it 3/4 the way down. It says I can put it in milk and I think that would taste better but my diet plan calls for just water and the occasional green tea. Seeing as how skim milk is still pretty thick it would seem as though it would take longer to dissolve.

Any thoughts on making this taste better without using a blender? I’d rather not make it more than what it is. Thanks a bunch.[/quote]

Buy a Magic Bullet. It is fast and easy to clean…plus allows you to mix berries or whatever else…

I’m assuming that you are on a diet because you are only supposed to have green tea and water. So it looks like water is the only choice for you.

As far as protein shakes taste, at first, all of them are horse shit. It’s just like drinking alcohol, you will get used to it and the more expensive stuff goes down better.

If you are having trouble with getting the shit to mix, go to GNC and get one of their Blender Ball cups. Those things are fantastic!

Oh ya, fuck soy.

Magic Bullet? What are you trying to do suggest the guy go out, buy a miniature vibrator, throw it in his protein shake and watch the vibrating action break up all the chunks??!!?? Damn thats some fucked up shit. LOL

Magic Bullet does sound kind of gay, but I just checked out their website and it looks pretty nifty. I think I will get one now

Use caution on the magic bullet it claims to be dishwasher safe however my gf got one for xmas and the 2nd or 3rd trip through the dishwasher the blender portion melted on regular heat. It worked great for protein shakes the first two times I used it. Now we have a $50 paper weight.

Yeah, I think Biotest should consider manufacturing blenders as well as proteins.

Shaker cup takes 10 seconds to mix it together, if you still have issues may consider whom your source of protein is.

If you’re trying to lose weight, and you’re not on a ketogenic diet (low-carb), then protein supplements are not ideal.

If you are on a ketogenic diet, then it’s difficult to overdo the fat if you’re eating clean. However, the carbs in milk can be a problem. The last two times I did it I used 150ml water and 100ml milk with a raw egg to increase fat (and other nutrients).

What are you talking about? Protein supplements arent ideal unless youre on a keto diet? So someone on a high protein, moderate carb, moderate fat diet would have their progress slowed by using protein powder as a part of their daily protein intake?

Not necessarily, but if you’re concerned about keeping calories down and nutrients up, protein supplements just aren’t good value compared to a lot of other ‘real food’ choices in terms of nutrients provided and satiety.

Probably the only time they would be good value (on that sort of diet) is post-workout.

It was a fairly general comment, and would depend greatly on the dieter’s needs (current weight, type of exercise etc) and approach to losing weight.

If I were on a calorie reduction diet (pffth) I would want real food in my belly. YMMV.

Maybe in the morning as well, like Christian Thibodeau explained, there’s a big insulin surge when you wake up.

Youre not making any sense. If protein supps arent of good value due to the fact that a protein shake isnt very satiating, then why are they still beneficial on a keto diet…where the only bulk forming foods you are eating are veggies? Satiety is a much bigger issue with Keto diets since meat+veggies doesnt exactly keep you full for very long.
