Back in 2000, I was playing hockey as a goaltender, during one play, I dove to my left side and landed on my arm pit. I didn?t feel much pain immediately however within a couple of weeks my entire left shoulder and arm, all the way down to my finger tips were tingling. I spent the next 6 years trying to heal myself. I spent lots of time with MRIs, X-Rays, Chiros, Acupuncture physio etc. Nobody could have told me what was wrong with me and they couldn?t find the source of my pain.
Fast forward to today, I went to see an ART therapist for the 1st time. There are la hand full in the province of Qu?bec. I walked in, explained my situation and tells me that he has dealt with this problem before. He says that I need 2 sessions a week for 4 weeks. And that I will immediately see improvement within the 1st 2 weeks. After my 1st 60 mins session, I can honestly say I feel a little better. He kinda hurt me like hell but he claims that I have a lot of scar tissue that he needs repair. So that?s it for now, I will posting an update next week.
Interesting. I’m probably going to get some ART done on my hitting shoulder (I play volleyball in college) which has taken quite a beating over the past couple of years.
I went to an ART specialist about 2 months ago because of a nerve impingement in my L hamstring. He fixed it after 2 sessions of “Russian Stim” (which is like a glorified ab shocker product you see on TV).
After the Stim, he then brought my leg through certain motions, stretches and light resistance work. He had me ice it and come back for a second round. By the third meeting it was all cleared up and I’ve had no problem since.
I got my first ART session a couple of weeks ago. Didn’t make a big difference in pain, but my shoulder press went up 5 lbs. Unfortunately, I have to go to a different practitioner because I came back to school. I do want to continue, though.
As a precaution, my chiro advised me to stay way from any movements using my shoulders. Especially, inclines. No Bench, Flys, military press…I guess Ill be doing squats and deadlifts for the next month…

That is interesting advice. No shoulder work at all? Not even range of motion stuff?
I share jp’s concern, RoM stuff I think is always good, no matter how bad you are, unless it would actually tear a healing muscle. When it’s just scar tissue, I can only see it helping. Of course, could be incredibly painful… but still.
Time for the tiny woman dumbbells They have a use: RoM stuff.
