You don’t give enough information for anyone to be able to help your dad. Not even age!

Just go here, and start reading:

Couple of programs that might be appropriate:

My guess is he’d lose weight if he just tried to clean up his diet and exercise more. Keep it simple.

Dad needs to have his hormones checked. Thyroid, total T, free T and estrogen [E2].

If those are out of whack, conventional changes to diet and lifestyle will not do the job.

I would recommed he find a grassy or dirt hill and walk it several times a week for about two weeks to get some conditioning and then start running it. Combine this with some jump roping and some push-ups, squats and core work and he’s got a gym-free work that works.

I hope you and Dad are looking at this as a lifestyle question and not some sort of short term goals thing.

For proper nutrition, it’s hard to beat Precision Nutrition (dot com) by Dr. John Berardi. I follow it every day.

For fitness training, start slow and work up. Here’s as good a start as any:

Have fun!

You can’t beat Dr. Berardi.

Dr. Berardi also has a “Keep It Simple, Stupid” version in book form called “The Metabolism Advantage.” Includes diet and a great workout program that would be a TERRIFIC way for your dad to get back into things. I really cannot recommend it enough – around 17.00
