My 21 Y/O Fiancee's Metabolism is Absolutely Horrible and I Don't Know What to Do

She needs the help of somebody more qualified. I think you’re counting calories all wrong, so no shit.

So guys, in your opinion- is there some kind of possible explanation here outside of not counting calories correctly?

Is there any kind of condition that would cause her to have half normal metabolism being a very healthy young girl?

The most possible explanation is that you’re not counting calories correctly, or not counting at all during these “cheat days”

If you think there’s a medical condition, why haven’t you scheduled an appointment with a doctor yet? I wouldn’t rule it out that there could be some medical condition, but you won’t know until you check with a qualified medical professional - not T-Nation forum and WebMD. But I still think it’s coming down to you not counting correctly.

It’s pretty rare to think about the one exception in any context. Is it possible that your fiancee suffers a rare condition? Yes. Is it likely? Really not.

Unicorns are quite inexistent

Flat farmer, she should be losing 3 lbs a week

Her maintenance level is 2500. She’s avging like 1300 calories a day. She’s barely struggling to lose 1 lb

Soul fighter she did all the blood tests and everything came out great

You’ve gotten some pretty consistent answers man. I’m not trying to be a jerk, but no matter how much you fish, we seem to think:

  • She’s overeating (at least as her weekly average)
  • There are some unhealthy habits being developed or reinforced
  • You are not the person that should be guiding her

Okay, then the answer is that there is no medical condition, and that you’re miscalculating something.

What food scale are you using with this aggressive approach? And what are you using to measure your “cheat days?”

Yes. There’s a condition called “Overbearing fiancee syndrome” that can cause one to simultaneously gain weight and lose their mind.

Please, let’s not encourage him to take a more aggressive micro-managing approach to someone else’s weight and appearance.

Upvote.

And downvote on the sweeping the house etc.

Unless she herself creates an account and starts writing for herself this thread makes me worry about the dynamic of the relationship.

She’s blamed,

despite how involved OP is. And anotherrred flag to me is that OP is expressing this:

Maybe it’s just that this person is more cavalier with how they express themselves than I’m myself but I see it as a warning sign.

To me, the going crazy sentiment does not come across as being an empathetic or concerned reaction which maybe you’d expect given how many people have posted along the lines that it’d be worthwhile establishing that there isn’t an underlying medical condition at play.

1lb a week for a year is 52lb.

More and more I think she’s just not being honest with me for her cheat days. I think she’s eating 4000 calories and is not telling me

In all your guys expert opinion, there is no other possible explanation right?

The body does not work that way. If you maintain in 2500 calories cutting 500 calories a day does not mean you will lose 1lb a week. People have a range in which they will maintain. Perhaps an evolutionary mechanism to help survive possible famine.

I think you’re not counting correctly. Don’t shift the blame here.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think he needs to be aggressive in micro-managing. But if these numbers are based of just what he eyeballed, yeah thats the issue here.

“ate about 2300 calories (3 eggs and ham for breakfast, 3 slices of pizza, meat and salad for dinner”

Eggs, ham, pizza, meat ? And you have to ask?

Tummy tucks are a waste of $4000 unless she changes her habits. My wife got one and two years later you can’t even tell.

Allberg has the best answer. She needs to be on here herself.

Your fiancee is consuming the same amount of calories as she is burning, therefore she is not losing weight. There’s no mystery here.

She can’t be in a daily 1,200 calorie deficit and not losing weight. Therefore, these numbers can’t possibly be correct as that would defy the laws of thermodynamics.

Why are you unwilling to listen to any other advice other than she is counting incorrectly? Which, btw, nearly the entire population of people who calorie count fuck up…

A lot could be said about this statement.

Either way, here’s one suggestion on top of the others you’ve gotten already:

How about she eats a more reasonable amount of calories on the daily, and no cheat days?

I can think of at least 5 benefits to making such a change.

Judging by this guys posts I feel that she is not the issue he does not know what he is doing.

She went from 211 to 209 lbs, had cheat meals over the weekend, weighed in heavier on Monday from water retention due to sodium, carbs and food in her stomach (DUH) so he cuts her calories to 900, for what reason? This guy is lost.

Also, says that she averages “like 1300 calories” when her 3 day avg. was 1700 calories.

Minor fluctuations.

Very simple fundamental biological necessities like sodium and potassium can create greater fluctuations than this literally over night.

They also usually take about 3 days to dissipate, so this weekly cycle that includes pizza night or what ever on weekends actually makes perfect sense.

There are multiple levels of unrealistic expectations happening here, and I guarantee you are violating personal boundaries like a sprinter crossing a finish line.
