Must Win, No Other Option

Any situation where all I can say is, “Oh well, I tried” usually translates as “I FAILED”.

There would also be far less overall competitors…yet far more impressive ones if people thought of bodybuilding competitions as some right of passage for those who are truly impressive in what they have built.

Yeah I figured someone would say that… for me better to try and fail than to not try at all… However, my goal was to get in the best shape of my life NOT to win - so i lost over 70 pounds and stepped on stage proud as hell. I know plenty of people who talk about competing but never do because it sure as sh!t ain’t easy…

Don’t get me wrong the kid’s attitude is off but I think that the only way he will figure out you guys were all telling him the truth and trying to help is for him to stand on stage and realize it for himself.

The “I wanna compete for the experiance” and competeing before you are ready crowd only helps to keep Bodybuilding on the fringe.

Imagine going to a pro ball game and all the guys from the neighborhood park are playing.

Good intentions and motivation are one thing being taken seriously is another.

Bodybuilding is more mainstream now than it was 30 years ago. I’d rather it be more on the fringe, the last thing we need is more douchebags filling up a gym.

Agreed. I am all for someone losing a bunch of weight and feeling good about themselves, but that alone does NOT qualify someone for stepping on a stage meant to present the greatest developed bodies in that particular area…or even the country as a whole.

It won’t change either as long as everyone who used to be obese uses bodybuilding contests as some sort of finish line for their weight loss.

It is like all of the people who know they aren’t at an elite level want recognition as well.

Maybe the solution is some basic comp where everyone who used to be sedentary can cheer themselves on. Maybe they will stop using more serious comps as their showcase.

While I agree it is definately more mainstream Ive got more than 20 yrs under my belt, I think the douche bag quotient is on the rise anyway or at least holding steady.

I admit I kinda like the feel of a member only club to being a BBr but it be nice at the same time to be a freak in the good since and not the bad as well.

Yup, no arguments there. Still working on being a freak though, lol.

Same here. I want jaws to drop.

This has been a societal problem for awhile now. I got my eyes opened to it when I coached Babe Ruth Baseball (13-15 yr olds) back when I was 19.

The mediocre don’t like being there, and they don’t want to work to rise up, so they bitch moan and complain until they get attention.

There are also too many of them.

I wouldn’t even think about stepping on stage in the condition as some of these guys, but they really seem to think they have done something special simply because they competed even if they forgot the whole “building” issue.

In my honest opinion, the big guy with 20" arms or bigger in good shape in the crowd who never competed is still better than the guy who doesn’t look built at all but managed to slip on posing trunks.

Suffice to say you’re much closer to that point than I. Then again, Jay Cutler is much closer to that point than you, so I guess we all have our reference points.

People just look right now. I want them to drop shit and run into other cars. I want girls to drop panties just because they saw me walk by. I want children to start crying and for old ladies to kneel and pray.

Part of the OPs downfall (Many others as well) is his skewed vision he openly critisizes last yrs novices as not “all that” yet can’t see it in his own self.

I’ve said it before often the hardest vision to look at as is on’es own reflection.

This is very common in all things one has to look no farther than the first couple of weeks of American Idol before they pick the final group you get 1 after the other of “What do you mean I can’t sing my grandma told me I was great” “evrywhere I sing people stop and stare” I won the swap meet singing contest" etc.

You’d get that reaction sooner if you were to display open sores, a foaming mouth, bloodshot eyes and smell like some none-too-recently-deceased cadaver.

Even Jay Cutler only manages to make little girls cry and none of the other stuff…

LOL!!

Seriously, that deserves its own title…the American Idol complex.

Just because some 160lbs twig thinks you look huge at the gym, it doesn’t mean you actually impress anyone on a fucking national scale.

Go to some serious comps and see what the real competition is like.

If your only chance at winning is making sure everyone else sucks ass, you don’t deserve to really win yourself.

So be it hence fourth all who shall compete before their time suffer from “The American Idol Complex!”

I am proud I have accomplished something today afterall!

Now that’s something I completely agree with.

By the way have we even heard from the OP?

Fuck Yeah! I’ve always said my goal was to have normal women say,“Ew, he’s so big and muscley, it doesn’t even look real, it looks gross” and normal men say “What a fuckin’ beast” with timid reverance.
