Alright I’m posting to see what you guys think the different effect you get when you listen to something fast beated and something more smooth. I think I’ve come to realize that if I listen to metal and stuff like that it just drains me mentally WAY WAY WAY more.
Everytime I listen to rap, eazy e, tupac, saigon, nas, big pun, lil wayne, and countless and endles other rappers I always feel like I have a more smooth workout and i feel MUCH more FOCUSED on the weights I’m doing and not the music. When it’s loud metal it seems to throw me off. What do you guys think, is it just me or are any of you like this also?
I think something like deftones, godsmack and stuff like that is good also if you have something to do fast and upbeat. Anyway what’re your thoughts on this?
As capital-L Liberal as I am, I think the ultra-right-wingers are on to something when they say that “the problem with kids today is their dang rap music”.
I find I feel really good in the short term listening to Marilyn Manson, N.I.N, Slayer, Eminem, N.W.A, D.M.X., and any sort of “angry” music, but it puts me into a mood where I tend to road rage and get bitter and angry at people for little things a lot easier.
When I noticed this and deliberately switched to “neutral” and “positive” music, my overall mood and disposition improved remarkably.
I notice my friends’ personalities tend to follow their music preference, but that’s a case of the chicken-and-the-egg.
One of my friends is a complete Euro-hair-metal fanatic. He burned me a couple of CDs from these bands “Highland Glory”, “Masterplan”, and “Kamelot” that were pretty sweet.
They put me in a “riding 'cross the lands of yore to behead mine enemies” sort of mood.

I’m quite the opposite the louder & Heavier the metal the better I can focus on lifting weights.
I usually burn a CD that starts out realtively softer (think 80’s Hairband-Poison, Tesla, etc) & then gets progressively heavier (Motorhead, Slayer, Sepultura, Arch Enemy). This heavy stuff really helps me towards the end of my workout, it makes me feel fresh & energized like I just walked into the gym.
In my truck, I like listening to the radio. We have a station that plays a couple different genres of music, so you get a little rock and a little R&B/Rap…which is a nice change of pace. For my workouts, I like something a little heavier. My mp3 player has everything from Marylin Manson to Slipknot to Mudvayne all the way to 50 Cent. If I am doing Circuit Sets, I like something fast pace, but not as heavy. For heavy lifting, I really get into something heavy and hard, that’s where Mudvayne, slipknot, and soil come into play.

Awesome! There is nothing like working out to virtuoso metal wherein the bulk of the lyrics refer to battles with dragons and elven kingdoms.
Personally, I really enjoy working out to Black metal. Anaal Nathrakh and Thorns are two bands who have accompanied a lot of my recent workouts. I also enjoy listening to Math rock and Grind bands like Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge and Botch.
I can’t really see how working out to 2Pac would get me pumped for DE Squat day (except for Hit 'em Up maybe, I used to love that tune).
I think that if you want to hit the middle ground between upbeat and rousing, Elbowstrike has tapped into a panacea with Power Metal.
Seeing what’s been said about ‘beat driven’ music, I may try working out to some filthy drum and bass at some point though… or techno.
