Muay Thai

Hi,
I have been training in Krav Maga for about a year and really enjoy it. I boxed a bit when I was younger so I’m happy enough with the striking with fists etc but my kicking elbows etc need a bit of work. Plus the fact that in Muay Thai they spar once you develop a bit of competence. I’m really looking to use the Muay Thai to support the Krav Maga.
Any thoughts?

I think Muay Thai is a pretty complete striking art that will get you used to full contact sparring. So yeah, go for it.

Cheers,
Love the Krav but to be honest think the sparring really brings you on in terms of applying skills in a “real time” context. Think I’ll give it a go.

Muay Thai is a beautiful art. It is a complete striking art and it will surely test your cardio. Aside from Muay Thai being a very fun sport, it is also brutal with respect to the amount of damage that you can both deliver and incur. I’ve met some of the most humble, cool, genuine, and toughest people while training in Muay Thai.

Feel free to check out my training log. It will give you an idea of what goes on in most of the authentic and good Muay Thai gyms.

I would disagree that Muay Thai is a complete striking art (at least not the modern sportive version), but it does teach knees, elbows, clinch work, and kicks very well and is great for building physical and mental toughness, conditioning, and learning to apply your skills against resistance. Dutch MT tends to develop hand skills better than Thai MT, but since you said you had boxing experience and you are planning on using MT to supplement your Krav it should serve that purpose well.

I agree. Their punching form and their combinations leave a lot to be desired, but they are very good at elbows, knees, etc.

I would go for it - it will put you head and shoulders above the average krav maga striker, who, in my experience, aren’t much better than the average guy in general when it comes to punching.

Thanks guys,
Think I’ll check out the training logs. It’s really to improve kicks elbows etc, Krav Maga is enjoyable but I always feel that you need to spar to really develop the skills in a dynamic environment.

Thanks think I’ll give it a go. Really enjoy the Krav, but kicks and elbows need a bit of work.
