Mr. Hammond, the phones are working...

5/3/1 bench day needs to be posted now because it’s bothering my OCD and I need RATIONAL people to make me feel better, HA!

SO YES

90 x 5
100 x 3
105 x 3 <–EEP only 3 for my 1!
105 x 3 again, gotta get conifdent at this weight
110 x 1 ← easy, fast, paused, controlled

115 x MISS. EEK GADS. MY BRAIN GO HAYWIRE

95 x 6

close grip bench

65 x 10
75 x 8
85 x 6
75 x 9

Tri super set stuff (did that rolling tri thing, fun) uhh tri extensions, dips, yadda yadda.

OKAY now in my head I KNOW powerlifters miss lifts, and that is FINE. My set up was fine, I was well rested etc etc… there was no reason for the miss other than that I wasn’t there quite yet. I know I’ll be there soon and that all I need is patience and recovery and I will easily have this sometime in Feb.
But then my workout lacks a sense of accomplishment and, i dunno, it just bugs me brain.

SO QUESTION For you awesome experienced powerlifters out there (who are most likely far saner than I)

How often do you miss lifts? And is it better to try and miss? Missing=important part of powerlifting training??

Mmmkay all for now.

A phrase I picked up from somewhere, maybe Simmons, maybe Tate, or Wendler, who knows…

“Never grow accustomed to missing.”

Bad days happen, and misses occur, but if they become a habit, re-examine your training and planning, and try to find out why you are consistently attempting weight well beyond your ability.

EDIT - see my training from tonight for a example of “some days just suck”

YOU ARE KILLIN IT UP IN HURRRRR!

Okay boring update because my OHP numbas aaaaaaaareeee indeed boring!

Also, is it called a military press or an overhead press, what da hell is the difference?

[/quote]

Oooh oooh ooh !i KNO I KNOW!
I am the source of all obscure OHP mythology! (er, I read an article once)

Its actually not REALLY different. Strict Standing OHP is currently called “Military Press”
In the olden days, Military Press was different from Strict Standing OHP in the foot position.
The feet were in some sort of like, oh, third position in Ballet which was a military stance.
Now we SAY “Military Press” for all standing OHP regardless of footposition.
So the two names now mean the same thing but didn’t used to.
clear as mud?

Don’t over think the miss. Gets in your head & than it is just one more thing to think about. So you missed it. No biggie. The mental battle can be just as tough as the actual lifting. Wipe the slate clean & get it next week.

Thanks print!!

And good point DF.

I honestly think I was a little overly ambitious with my bench numbers. If I had made the 115 it would have been the first time EVER that I was able to bench my body weight. I KEEP FORGETTING i am not 150lbs anymore, HELLO?!

I think next cycle I am taking 5lbs OFF my bench because none of my AMRAP sets were anywhere near what all my other lifts were. I ain’t ready to stall out yet. EGO AT THE DOOR SILLY ME. I also think I just enjoy benching too damn much. I always have. I can never let it rest because I Always ALLLLWAYS want to flipping bench!

Ah well.

Rest day today. Walked/10 mins of some prowler pushing and sorta got a lotta home work done.

DL TOMORROW!

NO worries! I am in school to become a sign language interpreter. The first year was basically just learning the language itself, but now we’re into Deaf culture stuff so it’s paper after paper after paper, UHG, my brain go mushy…

ok ok ok OK!!! I am so excited about my workout today I am writing it on T-Nation before I even put it in my little note pad book thingie, ha.

5/3/1 Deadlift

150 x 5
175 x 3
195 x 6 <— 6 for my 1, YEP, I’ll take that!
worked up to a single
220 x 1
230 x 1
anndd…
235 x 1 MEANING… that at 114lbs I have officially deadlifted over 2 times my body weight for the first time in my entire life, AND ThAT IS WITHOUT A BELT. OMGGGG!! YAY!
then 175 x 9 = dead

did some accessory, RDL’s, leg press, good mornings, lying leg curl, whatever.

HOLY MAN, this feels awesome! So excited about all the strength gains to come as I keep plugging away at 5/3/1 with a RATIONAL SANE APPROACH. <— Never had that before, heh.

For next cycle all I really am thinking I gotta do some one arm stuff because I know my left tricep and lat/rear delt don’t activiate properly and this affects my benching big time.
Might try floor press if I get brave
uhh bit of weight off bench that I already mentioned and ya…

Military press and then I’m on to my first deload in like a year haha. Should be different…

Congrats on the big pulls.

Omg! That’s awesome. 2x bodyweight is a true milestone and I’m super impressed (and a little jealous). Good job!!!

Oh hell yeah!!! Awesome work Spockie!! 2xBW is my freaking dream! Good on you, girl! chest bump!

jesus!! awesome pulling in here Spock. way to freakin go.

YES!!!

Man I forget just how tiny you are!!!

Can I put in a plug for Spocky videos? I’d love me some

p.s. you’re right about this site being horrible for getting homework done. UGH. must.learn.something!

Nicely done!

Oh oh oh! My friend Cristen is hella good at sign language. She taught me somewords.

I know how to say: alcoholic, blowjob, and squirell!

I CAN’t tell you how many times this has come in handy.

On yeah um solly got distracted by squirells and blowjobs but GOTDAMMM YOU BE KILLIN IT UP IN HURRRRR!

Good work Spock a 2x bodyweight deadlift is awesome. Oh and x2 on the videos.

That is pretty dang cool that you are becoming asign language interpreter. About 3-4 years ago i took an american sign language class and it was kinda tough at first to learn a totally new language, but it ended up being really interesting. I also had to write a few papers about deaf/mute culture and it was disheartening to see how mistreated they are. That same semester i got to help out another student that was deaf on a class trip because i was in that class. Sadly i haven’t really used that skill much and lost most of the signs that i learned.

Man, I missed some awesomeness in here  Good work on the 2xBW pull! Spectacular!

As for the bench miss, it happens. I agree with your plan to back off the numbers a bit and build up to try it again. You’ll get it!

Hi Spock

Congrats on the 2x BW pull awesome!

and x whatever on the vids.

Awesome work on the pull, sounds like there’s a lot more there too!
