Fish oils known to help prevent heart attacks can now be made by land animals for themselves, thanks to work by genetic engineers.

The researchers inserted a gene from a nematode worm into mice which enables the mammals to make the omega-3 fatty acids. If the same feat can be achieved in farm animals, meat, milk and eggs could all be directly enriched with the oils.

Maybe one day soon we won’t have to take in supplemental fish oil.

I think we have genetically altered enough things. Man is not supposed to play God and create mutations.

that is all.

I believe that scientifically designing foods is the wave of the future.
It is the way we will combat diseases by providing optimally designed foods perfect for human consumption.
It is the way we will be able to feed the worlds billions and prevent starvation. With foods designed to be nutritionally perfect, the human race would be at a great advantage!

I have to agree with Ms. Maiden on this. Genetically altering other living things for the sake of convenience or any other gain is just wrong. Leave my steak the way it is and I’ll just keep up on my supplements.

i don’t know guys who says its wrong???
i believe that’s all a matter of view. what you may see as wrong another may deem okay. all we can do as individuals in a free society is stay away from what we are uncomfortable with and let another do what he feels okay with.its that same kind of mentality that has the FDA banning ephedra and soon to be prohormones. its pres. bush saying on TV that he feels no one should have an “unfair” advantage. i say to heck with it if im smart enough to use good products and stay away from bad. than the advantage i have is not unfair its well informed.

sorry guys just my 2 cents
