Motivation Help!

i’m having a hard time getting motivated for the gym lately. i was rocking and rolling about a month ago. i went five days a week at 5:30 in the morning and actually woke up excited to work out.

i had been working off and on for a while before that, but nothing significant, and before that i’d been going hard core.

i was well on my way back in to the shape i was in and would like to be in.

then i got sick for about two weeks with a nasty respritory virus.

now, i’ve been healthy for two weeks and have been to the gym twice. both times i gave myself a sub par work out.

i almost cringe at the though of going to the gym. it’s like a complete 180!

how do you motivate yourself?

i was almost back on a schedule and am now at ground zero.

is this burn out? laziness?

any pointers to get me enthused again?

I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you. Take some time off and enjoy other things. When the mood hits you again start training.

You should just push through and go. You may not want to go to the gym but I bet afterward you feel great. Try to remember that. Go and do something even if you barter with yourself and say it’s only for 20-minutes. You’ll probably stay later and get something done. You’ll get back in the swing of things.

I may not always want to go to the gym, but I always feel good afterwards

Its probably because of the two weeks you took off. I know that it is always hard for me to get back into the swing of things after a break.

I just went through a phase where I was undisciplined and skipped the gym for about two months. Because of the holiday season and various traveling, my routine got out of sync and I started making excuses to myself to get out of going to the gym. However, I’m now back and enjoying every minute of it!

What did it for me was reading the forums here at T-Nation. It reminding me that there is a physique that I wanted to attain when I started to workout, that I had a goal, and I certainly am not getting any closer to that by being lazy and staying at home. After reading about what other people are doing to get towards their goals, I had to get off my butt and get back in the gym. Getting up at 5am in the morning is hard, but like OctoberGirl said, once I was at the gym, I was enjoying it and I felt great!

So, think back to your goals when you first started to workout. If you still want to keep those goals, then get to it. You won’t get there by sitting at home.

I repeat to myself “I know some where, some place Tiger Woods is working harder than me.”

Ha ha ya think?

I’ll be honest. You sound like someone who was never really into the lifestyle in any event. Just quit.

Did you go to College?

If so, you would know that its mostly habit. You don’t like to go to class because its boring, your professor sucks, or mayb you want to sleep in after a long night with your girl.

But you still gotta do it if you want the degree. Its perfectly normal to feel like not going to the gym sometimes. but you still have te do it to achievev the result you want. No weights, no body. No exceptions to this rule.

Do it and make a habit out of it.

Also, make sure that you are eating enough and properly (cut down on the excessive carbs and simple sugars), and get plenty of rest.

Overtraining can make you fool drained and lazy. Read articles by Dr John Berardi to find out what you gotta eat, when and how.

then you would also be a dumb ass. and probably a bitter cuckolded husband from reading your posts on here.

you do realize how gay you sound when you refer to excercising as “the lifestyle” right?

you sound like a closet queer frequenting truck stops to suck cock.

yeah, i’ll be wrapping up a degree in a few months. good analogy. i do just need to make myself go. i just havn’t had the motivation lately that i did before i got sick.

i appreciate the advice on eating and sleeping. i used to wrestle and have a pretty good handle on nutrition and healthy foods.

i’ve seen some of Berardi’s stuff, and he is definately insightful at times. i prefer to train like an athlete rather than a body builder though. i’m after over all health, agility, speed, strength etc rather than ballooning my muscles up as large as possible.

his definition of over training is a little different than mine. i don’t think that it is a problem. i’m just wanting motivation tips that others use i guess.

You do realize that you’re living “the life”. I’d give my left nut for class to be the single thing that worried me. You have problem with motivation? That’s a joke…grow a pair of nuts.

Lance Armstrong: Quit? You know, once I was thinking of quitting when I was diagnosed with brain, lung and testicular cancer all at the same time. But with the love and support of my friends and family, I got back on the bike and won the Tour de France five times in a row. But I’m sure you have a good reason to quit. So what are you dying of that’s keeping you from the finals?
