Mother Kicked Out of Gym for 'Training' Her Son

One of my college roommates got the tip of her finger crushed in a weight stack working out with her BF. Lost the end up to the first knuckle. On a positive note, it takes her a little less time to do a manicure. Not good to move the pin while weights are in motion.
There is a saying in the oilfield “never put your finger where you wouldn’t put your [colorful slang for male appendage].”

Not sure how this would work for a female.

But it is sage advice.

Classy move by LA fitness.

I clicked on to this, some say sex predator. At 17 I would have called it hitting the goddamn jackpot!..

I just read the CT F cert thread, so i read this as “MOTHERFUCKER KICKED OUT OF GYM…”

Sounds like something my gym would pull, the trainers there are some of the most despicable humans I’ve ever seen not a single bit of gym etiquette between the lot of them.

Do your gyms allow kids in the free weight areas?

I train at a university gym, and they will allow you to bring minor children on the weekends to use the indoor track, pool, basketball courts, badminton, ping pong tables, etc…

They won’t let kids under 18 use weight machines or be around the free weight areas. If your kid is 17 or so, (old enough to blend in with the college students) then no one will say anything, but it’s technically against the rules. They would never let that 13-year-old kid in the weight room.
My gym is 12 if supervised by an adult. 15 if unsupervised, which has created some interesting situations.
Would you care to elaborate on such situations? Training your own child shouldn’t be penalized in any way is my thought, totally stupid.

LA Fitness seems incredibly anal regarding “personal training”. You’re essentially not allowed to tell anyone how, or what, to do.

It’s absurd.

Most of the time when the kids are supposed to be supervised they are not from what I notice. It’s like the parent goes off and does something then the kids do something else and are screwing around half the time on some weights or cardio machine.

I say you are clear to post, but only if it has van art. Like an airbrushed wizard or a wolf howling at the moon. Or even better, The Millenium Falcon.

I was just trying to tease Pat and the guys with the Cars American Cool thread.

 I don’t actually own a minivan, but if I had a sweet ride like that, I would totally put a picture up over there.

Actually I was referring to the unsupervised 15 year olds. They will get in there and just start playing. Dumping weights off the end of the bar on the bench press or while curling something is an everyday occurrence. Having to pull one of them out from under the Leg Press sled or bar probably happens once a week. You get 5 or 6 of them together and it only gets worse.

Yeah, they are mostly running around the track in my gym while the parents are lifting or on the treadmills.

Yea, it seems most of the female teachers that get caught end up being rather attractive. Wish I had that kind of pull when I was in my teens.

My Gym, a World Gym in Tujunga, CA will allow a 13 year old on the machines when accompanied by a parent. By 14 they can start using the weights with a parent and by 16 they can come and train by themselves.

pffft I had a membership at golds when I was 13 and used to go with my father all the time. They just don’t have many gyms the way it used to be. In the old days everyone at the gym wanted to be a bodybuilder. you didn’t have all these new years resolutioners and soccer moms and yoga classes.

Anyway, are you allowed to have a workout partner at this place planet sh!tness?

yes but they are not allowed to talk to each other.

Maybe.

This reeks of a fat female trainer at LA fitness with jealousy issues.
Or trainer that realized holy crap, someone is actually training another human being to progress instead of wallowing in mediocrity. Not good for the bottom line if others start realizing that this is what it looks like to get trained.
That sounds about right. LA Fitness is a commercial gym and part of a location’s revenue comes from high cost/low quality training packages. I bet member contracts contain all manner of clauses and conditions that allow the gym to kick people out if they’re even suspected of activities that cut into the owner’s profits.

It’s about the owner’s profits, but it’s set up so the concern of loss is passed onto the trainers and managers. I doubt employees were worried about the quality of training, and rather saw the situation as a missed opportunity to make a sale or meet a quota.

Maybe this news exposure will help Krista Grubb get a refund.

Good point of view here.
