Most Overhyped Movies

Are you serious? Citizen Kane is a fantastic movie.

Citizen Kane is beautifully shot, well-acted and a fine example of cinematography.

However, if you released that movie into theaters right now tagging it as ‘the best movie ever’ (as it is very commonly referred to as, talk about HYPE), I think you’d get some harshly negative reactions.

As mch as everyone apparently hated Episode I (okay, it was pretty bad,) it was a necessary addition to the Star Wars series. Jar-Jar was obviously a huge mistake, but I think everyone’s overlooking something — Darth Fucking Maul! Come on now, I know there’s not one person on this thread who doesn’t like Darth Maul, and if there is, he or she should probably punch themselves in the face numerous times.

Kevin Smith is better when he has no budget.
Agreed. In the commentary for “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” he even said his movies make $20 million regardless of budget. He meant that to mean if you give him $20mil to make a movie, you’re only going to break even.

Since he writes/produces/directs his movies himself, the only people who can slap him around are the Weinsteins who put up the money to finance his movies. He makes them money so no chance of that happening. He also uses the same editor for all his films, Sally Menke. And guess who’s editing Quentin’s newest film, Inglorious Bastards?

You beat me to it. Another bad one was The Village.
I liked the village. But then I like all of MKS’s films, even Lady in the Water. I can’t explain why. I think I’m the only one who liked that movie.

Superbad - Heard nonstop that I needed to see it. Guess what. I did and it blew.

I’m sorry, but your opinion is wrong.

…really though. It is.
Did I see an edited version of this movie or what? Because the Superbad that I watched was truly lame. It’s like it kept trying to be funny but failed.

What are they going to do, ruin Carnage next?
Has anyone mentioned Ghostrider yet? I think that was the worst, most innacurate, insubstantial piece of shit comic book movie ever made.

I wouldn’t call Ghostrider overhyped though. It had a February release date, which showed me the studio didn’t have enough confidence to put it up against the bigger blockbusters. Then when I heard some of the incredibly cheesy lines Nick Cage was saying, I knew it was going to be a turd.

Nobody’s said Alexander yet. The previews promised an epic war movie by a highly respected director (Oliver Stone) involving conquest and battles from opening to credits. Instead we get five minutes of combat scenes, 30 minutes of Alexander’s folks (Val Kilmer and Angelina Jolie) doing some of the worst acting ever, and 2 hours of Colin Farrel hitting on every dude from Macedonia to India.

Point taken.

Kevin Smith is better when he has no budget. Tarantino desperatly needs an editor/producer to slap him around. Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Death Proof, all way too chatty. No one wants to watch people do nothing but talk for ten or fifteen fucking minutes. Getting to look at Sydney Tamiia Poitier’s legs made Death Proof tolerable though.
This is true. Kevin Smith’s best was arguably Clerks, but I thought Dogma was really, really good and that was a fairly high-budget movie.

As for Tarantino, I thought his worst was easily the Kill Bill movies. It seemed a little pretentious for him to think that we care about dialogue THAT much in Death Proof, (and that’s hard for me to say, he’s my fav. director,) but then he goes and pays his dues to the classic Grindhouse movies with the climax. Then you have to look at something like Pulp Fiction, though, where there was actually a lot more dialogue than people realize, but he did a good job of incorporating it into the scenes with some action.

Transformers was the shit.

True. If you haven’t seen the movie, don’t criticize it.

Look who starred in the movie: Josh Duhamel?? Tyrese Gibson??

Yeahhh…I’m sure it’s great.

Transformers is trash and I don’t even have to watch more than the previews to know that.
kill yourself…transformers is the shit

also anyone saying that superbad isnt funny…go find a noose and hang yourself, there hasnt been a movie with so many one liners

also juno was the most overrated movie ive seen, good movie just not great

When it’s scalpel-sharp dialog, I don’t mind.

Agreed…and I really liked Kill Bill because of that. Without it, it would have just been overplayed blood splattering with no hint at past martial arts movies.

Sometimes he does let it get out of hand…but like was said, those legs in Death Proof make it bareable.

Wow, good post. I didn’t really say much befre, but I’ve come to the conclusion that anyone who didn’t find Superbad probably has the sense of humor of my left thumb, or was never a 17-year old teenager.

Also, I forgot all about Juno. What a bad, bad movie. First of all, Ellen Paige creeps me the hell out because she looks like a 13-year old. Secondly, the dialogue was pretentious. Okay, we get it. She’s a sassy, sharp-tongued teen who totally knows the funny and sarcastic quips… how does that justify calling it a good movie?

star wars

I found Superbad. Too bad I found it boring and unoriginal. Oh, well.

300 was about as lame as a movie can get imo. There was apart in the movie when everyone in the audience applauded and cheered. This is when I realized 300 is the most overrated movie ever.

Dude, no offense, but it was based on a graphic novel and stayed damn close to the original material. People who ignore this and act as if the idea cam eout of nowhere are ill informed to begin with. That movie and Sin-City deserve all of the credit they got for staying true to the source material.

Whether YOU in particular like it or not should lead to you asking why you would see a movie based on a graphic novel if you hate that concept.

That makes little sense.

I’m not going to go see Star Wars and then laugh at the impossibility of “the Force” that every Jedi used with ease.

I am not going to see Superman and then call it lame because a man can fly.

I think the excessive dialogue in Pulp Fiction knocked that movie out of the great category. It is a cool movie but I just want to scream STFU too many times.
